Prats de Molló combines fortified structures with an extensive nature reserve, hiking and cycling opportunities, and thermal traditions. When planning your trip, you can focus on different aspects: the town’s history, its landscape and wildlife, or crafts, art and thermal experiences. The following places and activities offer specific ideas to help you make your choice.

Fortified town and historic buildings

Fort Lagarde and the underground passage connecting it to the town were classified as historic monuments by decree on 15 January 1925. The complex includes a star-shaped keep built around a medieval signal tower. After the Angelets de la terra revolt, the keep was used to keep the inhabitants in check. The walk to the fort along the path and/or covered passage takes 15 to 20 minutes. From there, enjoy panoramic views of the valley and the fortified town. As access conditions may change, check them before your visit.

The Église Saint-Juste-et-Sainte-Ruffine is also notable as a fortified church: its 13th-century bell tower served as a defensive tower. The fortified town itself is open for free visits year-round. Allow extra time for the walk to the fort.

The Tour de Mir is a 13th-century signal tower. Built under the Kings of Majorca, it was used to relay military information. The tower was listed as a historic monument in 2002 and extensively restored in 2008. It is on the historic PR Route No. 7.

Nature reserve and routes

The Prats de Molló nature reserve stretches for 11 km from the source of the Tech to Pla Guillem. Its elevations range from 1,490 to 2,507 m. Pyrenean species found there include the Pyrenean chamois, bearded vulture, golden eagle, rock ptarmigan and capercaillie. However, seeing individual animals is not guaranteed during a visit.

For a cycling outing, VTT Circuit No. 17 is a clearly described option: the loop is 42.05 km long, rated very difficult, and starts and finishes in Prats de Molló. An 11 km cross-border section follows the ridge on the South Catalonia side. Unlike the historic PR Route No. 7, VTT Circuit No. 17 is a cycling loop. Check route conditions before setting out.

Crafts, art and the Fête de l’Ours

At the publicly accessible Coutellerie d’Art workshop, Morian Theuns and Aurelie Marquès make traditional Catalan knives; visitors can watch them at work. If you plan to visit the workshop, check the latest visitor information beforehand. Soft’Arts is a gallery exhibiting works by a bead artist, a painter, a textile artist and a photographer. As exhibitions and opening details may change, it is worth checking before your visit.

A recurring event in the local festival calendar is the Fête de l’Ours. It is celebrated shortly before spring, on a Sunday in late February, and marks the start of the Carnival festivities. The exact date varies from year to year; if this festival affects your travel dates, check the schedule for that year.

Thermal traditions in La Preste

The Station Thermale de la Preste has offered the benefits of its thermal springs for more than seven centuries. It is renowned for treating disorders of the urogenital tract of infectious origin, as well as metabolic and rheumatological conditions. This treatment focus is part of its profile, not a general medical claim.

The Spa Thermal de la Preste offers body treatments, balneotherapy and a beauty area. Facilities also include individual treatment cabins, a thermal-water pool and a relaxation room with panoramic views of the valley. Opening arrangements may vary, so check the latest conditions before planning a visit. This allows you to consider thermal traditions as a separate element of your trip, while the fortified town, nature reserve and cultural attractions mentioned above appeal to different interests.
