Saint-André-De-Roquepertuis lies in the Cèze Valley between Goudargues and Montclus. The destination combines a historic village centre with archaeological traces and opportunities to explore the surrounding area on foot, by mountain bike or on the water. When choosing a hotel, it is therefore helpful to start with a question: would you prefer to focus your stay on local history, walks and cycling, or on time by the water and in the gorges? The differences between these options can be seen in specific features of the village.

Historic village centre and archaeological traces

The old village centre includes residential buildings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Arches, vaulted passageways and moulded windows characterise the houses. Vaulted passageways are covered by a vault; moulded windows have shaped frames. The church adds a defensive feature to the village scene: its chancel end is raised for defensive purposes and has loopholes in each bay. These narrow openings make the defensive function of the structure clear. Residential architecture and church architecture with an explicitly defensive feature thus stand side by side in the old village centre.

The DRAC has recorded six archaeological sites in the commune. Their dates range from the Middle Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages, extending far beyond the period when the residential buildings mentioned above were built. In the Les Baradins district, there are also about fifteen kitchen gardens enclosed by dry-stone walls. Dry-stone walls are made of stones stacked without mortar; here, they enclose gardens and complement the village’s larger architectural features with a smaller-scale local detail.

Walks and mountain bike route

There are walking routes in the forests around the village. Mountain Bike Route No. 22 starts in the direction of the cemetery, is easy and family-friendly, and offers a beautiful view of the valley. There is another viewpoint at Les Rochers. While the forest walks offer a general focus around the village, the cycling route provides specific directions with its starting point and two viewpoints. The Cèze, the beach and activities in the gorges

Plage du Pont du Courau is a pebble beach on the Cèze. The beach is easy to access; there is a car park under the bridge. Swimming there is unsupervised. Check the latest access conditions before your visit.

At the foot of the gorges, the water is bordered by rocks, dense vegetation and small beaches. In July and August, Cèze Canoës offers inflatable paddleboard trips through the mini-gorges. This is a seasonal activity; check current availability for your travel dates. Inspire the Elements offers canyoning as an outdoor activity. For caving activities, Inspire the Elements develops experiences from its location in Saint-André-De-Roquepertuis.
