Ginoles: Thermal Park, Hiking Trails and Bird of Prey Watching
Accommodation in Ginoles
If you are considering Ginoles as a destination for a hotel stay, you can plan your trip around different interests: thermal history and architecture sit alongside trails and bird of prey watching. The conditions on site are particularly relevant when planning your visit. Access to the Chapelle Saint-Roch is currently prohibited; for La Mousquière, the difficulty, distance, elevation gain and approximate walking time provide useful guidance.
Thermal history at the Parc thermal
The Parc thermal de Ginoles-les-Bains is landscaped with trees, walking paths, pools and water channels, and is privately owned. Historically, the pool collected water from the Pascal and Sainte Eulalie springs. The plane tree avenue also has its own historical connection: according to Octavie Lassave’s memoirs, it dates back to 1804. For travelers interested in thermal history, the landscaped park, its connection to the springs and the avenue’s specific date offer distinct points of interest. As the park is privately owned, check whether access is possible before visiting.
Chapelle Saint-Roch: architecture and access
The Chapelle Saint-Roch is made of stone and lime and has an elongated floor plan. At 25 meters long and 5 meters wide, it is five times as long as it is wide. Martin probably built the chapel between 1868 and 1871. Access is currently prohibited for safety reasons; check local notices before planning a visit.
Trails between the olive grove and the panoramic view
The Sentier de Capio loop leads to an olive grove in Ginoles. At the Sentier des Oliviers, a bridge with a remarkable slate slab surface recalls Ginoles’ rich past. The two trails thus offer different points of interest: a specific destination in the olive grove on the one hand, and a bridge with historical significance on the other.
The La Mousquière route starts at the upper edge of Ginoles. It is very difficult, 14 kilometers long and involves 900 meters of elevation gain; walking time is about five hours. At Pech Tignous, an information board guides visitors through the panorama there. The distance, elevation gain, difficulty and approximate time together provide a clear picture of the hike; the board adds a reference point for taking in the panorama. The trails offer different options: the Sentier de Capio leads to a named destination, while La Mousquière can be assessed based on specific details about its length and difficulty.
Birds of prey at the Observatoire
The Observatoire des Vautours de Ginoles is located at the foot of the cliffs of the cirque de Quillan. Information boards and a telescope are provided for observing birds of prey and their habitat; picnic tables are also available. This provides a distinct focus for nature enthusiasts alongside the trails: here, the information and observation facilities are dedicated to birds of prey and their habitat. For travelers with a particular interest in birds of prey, the Observatoire is a clear point of interest.
