Discover Sannois
Accommodation in Sannois
When looking for a hotel in Sannois, it is worth first considering your travel interests: options range from the Moulin de Sannois and Cyrano de Bergerac to the landscapes of the Buttes du Parisis. Cultural history, outdoor activities and cycling infrastructure each offer a different focus. This can help you decide whether you would like to discover Sannois mainly through its heritage, activities in the natural surroundings or cycle routes.
Moulin de Sannois: history and visits
The Moulin de Sannois was built in 1759. From April to October, it is open for guided tours on the first Sunday of each month, except in July and August, from 2 pm to 7 pm. A visit covers the history of the mill and the technical development of this heritage site; the mill machinery is also demonstrated. Opening times and specific program details may change, so check them before your visit.
Art and local history
In 2023, the Église Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul received the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” label. A panel in the church depicts Sannois with Mont Trouillet, the mill sails and the church tower. This brings together a view of the town, the mill motif and the church in a single depiction.
Cyrano de Bergerac died in Sannois on July 28, 1655. A bust created by Dan Robert is displayed at Place Cyrano de Bergerac. These are two different points of reference to the figure: a historical event and a work displayed in a named square.
Maurice Utrillo’s paintings also connect the artist with Sannois. Nearly 150 of his paintings depict the town; almost a third of them feature the mills. These works were created during his “white period.” The mills are therefore not only part of the history of the buildings, but also a recurring subject in art.
Buttes du Parisis: landscape and activities
The Buttes du Parisis comprise four hills, including the Butte de Sannois and the Butte des Châtaigniers. The paths and trails on the Butte du Parisis and the Butte des Châtaigniers are managed by Île-de-France Nature. The names help distinguish the landscape features mentioned as you explore the area.
Activities in the Buttes du Parisis include hiking, running, mountain biking, horse riding and treetop adventure courses. This is a different focus from visiting a single heritage site: here, there are several ways to get active in a natural setting.
Cycle routes and bike lanes
Sannois has two cycle routes totaling 2.9 km, as well as 4.8 km of bike lanes. The 2.9 km refers to the two cycle routes combined; the bike lanes are a separate infrastructure figure. These lengths may change. If your plans depend on these figures, check the latest information in advance.
