Sevran brings together places with different highlights: at Parc forestier de la Poudrerie, nature and industrial history meet, while theatre, historic buildings and Aquarena offer other points of interest.

Nature and industrial history at Parc forestier de la Poudrerie

Parc forestier de la Poudrerie covers 137 hectares across Sevran, Villepinte, Livry-Gargan and Vaujours. Its landscape was shaped by the former gunpowder production. Woodland ponds and open grassland create different habitats for flora and fauna; notable bird species helped the park become part of the Natura 2000 network in Seine-Saint-Denis. Here, nature and industrial history coexist rather than forming separate themes.

The former Sevran-Livry powder mills in the park now house the Musée de la Poudrerie. The site’s former use is therefore also part of its history today. Parc forestier de la Poudrerie is accessible via RER line B, using the “Sevran-Livry” or “Vert-Galant” stations. Check the timetable before travelling if you plan to arrive by train.

Theatre and digital collection

Théâtre de la Poudrerie specialises in participatory theatre productions. The performances are created together with local residents. To understand the theatre, it is therefore important to consider not only theatre as a form of performance, but also its collaboration with the community. If you are interested in this kind of theatrical work, Sevran offers a clear local focus.

The Micro-Folie Sevran’s Musée numérique offers a different way to experience culture. Its digital collection includes 2,666 works from French, European and international museums, including the Louvre and the Opéra de Paris. Unlike participatory theatre, the focus here is on a digitised selection of museum works. The size of the collection may change.

Historic places in Sevran

Église Saint-Martin is one of Sevran’s oldest buildings. Archaeological investigations tentatively support the hypothesis that the site was already inhabited in Merovingian times. This possible early settlement remains a hypothesis; the building itself is an established part of the town’s recorded history.

Château du fief du Fayet is a country estate characteristic of the 18th century. General Bonaparte was a guest there, and Alfred Nobel was the estate’s most prominent owner. These historical associations are distinct: one concerns a visit, the other ownership.

Friche Kodak also reflects a change in use. Following extensive work to remediate contamination and redesign the site, it opened to the public in 2013. Activities associated with the site include events and walks. If you want to plan your visit around these, check the specific dates in advance.

Swimming and wellness at Aquarena

Aquarena de Sevran complements the cultural and landscape attractions with an aquatic centre. It has a 50-metre indoor pool and a 25-metre outdoor pool. Their different lengths and indoor or outdoor locations give you concrete points of comparison if you want to include swimming in your stay. Swimming lessons are also offered; check the latest course information if you plan to take part.

Aquarena’s wellness area includes a sauna, hammam and jacuzzi. The swimming pools and relaxation facilities provide two distinct options within the same venue. When planning, you can decide whether you mainly want to use the pools or also visit the wellness area.

Sevran therefore offers a range of ways to shape your stay: parkland shaped by gunpowder production, historic places, participatory theatre, digital museum works or Aquarena.
