Gressy is shaped by two waterways: the Beuvronne, a tributary of the Marne, flows through the town from north to south; the Canal de l’Ourcq borders Gressy to the south. The river and canal give the landscape distinct points of reference. For travelers, outdoor activities go hand in hand with local history: at the Étang, the focus is on walking and wildlife watching, while the canal offers cycling routes. The church, manor houses and mill each add their own historical details. Local produce is another topic to consider when planning your trip.

Water and Outdoor Routes

At the Étang de Gressy in Parc Macquer, you can stroll along the pond and watch swans, minnows and ducks. Swimming in the pond and boating on it are prohibited in Parc Macquer. Check local regulations before your visit.

Cycling routes along the Canal de l’Ourcq connect Paris and Gressy over 24.7 km, without crossing paths with road traffic. From Gressy, a section of the Scandibérique, also known as EuroVelo 3, also runs along the canal. The activities at the two waterside locations differ: at the Étang, you can go for a walk and watch wildlife; at the canal, you can cycle between Paris and Gressy.

Church, Manor Houses and Mill

The Church of Saint-Denis has four stained-glass windows dating from 1902. The Manoir de Gressy is a 17th-century manor house with historic charm; the Clairefontaine estate also dates back to the 17th century. The Moulin de Gressy, also known as the Moulin du Pont rouge, is a mill on the Beuvronne that was renovated in the 20th century.

At his Clairefontaine estate in Gressy, Pierre-Joseph Macquer set up a laboratory and a botanical garden, where he carried out his first scientific experiments. This scientific connection adds a different perspective on the estate’s architectural history and the town’s past. Clairefontaine is privately owned and not open to the public. If you are planning a visit, check this access restriction in advance.

The Manoir de Gressy provides bicycles for its guests. Please confirm this service before you arrive if it is important to your plans. The two 17th-century estates differ in terms of visitor access: the Manoir provides bicycles for its guests, while Clairefontaine is not open to the public.

Local Produce

Verger de Pomamour is a local producers’ shop on the RD212, Route de Compans, in Gressy. Twelve varieties of dessert apples are grown there. They ripen at different times and are available year-round.
