Offemont brings together a location between the foothills of the Vosges and the Jura, hiking routes in the municipal forest and around Étang des Forges, and several historic buildings. If you are planning a stay, you can decide whether to focus your trip on nature, heritage or an event date.

Landscape and Trails

The municipality lies between the last foothills of the Vosges, Mont du Rudolphe, and the last foothills of the Jura, Colline de la Miotte. The waterways can also be pinpointed: Canal du Martinet is a diversion of the Savoureuse. It runs along the Arsot district, crosses the Martinet intersection and flows into Étang des Forges at the lagoon on its north-western shore.

There are two distinct reference points for hikes: the GR 532 long-distance trail passes through the municipal forest of Offemont; a trail also runs around Étang des Forges. The highest level of public use on this trail has been recorded in the areas of La Cornée and Le Breuil. Check the current trail status before planning a specific hike.

Architectural History and Heritage

The present-day church of Offemont, dedicated to Saint Augustine, was built from 1844 onwards. For several centuries, the Offemont quarries supplied pink sandstone for numerous buildings, including Saint Christophe Cathedral and the church of Offemont. This brings together local architectural history and a material that was also used in other buildings.

The Gallo-Roman temple structure, also known as a fanum, is located in Le Martinet in Offemont. It was listed as a Monument historique by decree dated 15 April 1987. The entire pottery workshop was also listed as a Monument historique; the decree is dated 2 November 1987. These structures add Gallo-Roman and craft connections to the history of the area.

The local railway is part of the area’s transport history: trains ran between Belfort and Rougemont-le-Château via Offemont from 1913 to 1948. The route followed what is now the cycle path. This historical connection differs from the buildings and monuments, but it too can be placed within the history of the area.

Events Throughout the Year

The traditional “Fête de la Commune” is held every year in June at the MIEL. The annual “Week-end Découvertes” showcases sports and cultural activities; visitors can also attend open days hosted by numerous associations. The two events offer different opportunities to discover Offemont.

The “Week-end Découvertes” also includes the “Photo-Passion” exhibition at the MIEL. If you want to plan your trip around one of the events, check the respective dates and programmes in advance. The Fête de la Commune is firmly associated with the month of June; the specific dates for the Week-end Découvertes are also useful for planning.

Plan Your Stay

The area’s features can be grouped according to different interests: the GR 532 passes through the municipal forest, the trail around Étang des Forges offers a different landscape, and the buildings tell of various historical connections. If you want to plan your hotel stay around an event, you can also take the annual festivals and association events into account. This lets you connect your search for hotels in Offemont with the reason for your trip.
