Discover Gevry
Accommodation in Gevry
Gevry can be considered for travel planning through three themes: the Réserve Naturelle Nationale de l’Ile du Girard, activities along the Doubs, and the village’s medieval history. The commune lies on the Doubs; access to the nature reserve passes through Gevry and follows the signposts. If you are looking for a hotel in Gevry, you can decide whether the wetlands, the river setting, or the area’s historical connections matter most for your stay.
Wetlands and bird species
The Réserve Naturelle Nationale de l’Ile du Girard is an extensive complex of wetlands in the lower Doubs floodplain, where the Loue and Doubs meet. The nature area’s location is therefore defined by the floodplain, the two rivers, and their confluence. This gives you a more precise sense of its setting than the reserve’s name alone: the landscape is specifically described as a wetland in the lower Doubs floodplain.
More than 140 species find a habitat in the reserve, including around 100 migratory bird species and 60 breeding bird species. The total provides an overview of the area’s biodiversity; the figures for migratory and breeding birds add specific categories of birdlife. This connects the landscape with a clear interest in nature: alongside the wetland itself, bird diversity is also an important point of interest.
Getting to the reserve
From Dole, the route goes via Choisey and Dole Jura Airport (Tavaux). At the roundabout, follow the D905 for 1 km towards Geneva, then turn into the commune of Gevry. To reach the reserve, drive through Gevry and follow the signposts. The directions can be read as two steps: first, get to Gevry; then follow the signs to the protected area.
Guided tours and activities on the Doubs
The Réserve’s 2026 programme includes themed guided tours. They are free and open to everyone. As the programme applies to 2026, check the dates and availability before travelling.
Gevry’s location on the Doubs also offers opportunities for fishing and relaxation. If you plan to fish, check the local conditions and, where relevant, the permit requirements in advance. Alongside the themed tours in the nature reserve, river-based activities are another possible focus for your stay.
Gevry in the Middle Ages
In the Middle Ages, Gevry was an important place of passage. This historical connection complements the nature and river themes with the commune’s former role. When choosing a hotel in Gevry, you can therefore consider local history as a distinct theme, alongside the natural environment and activities on the Doubs.
