Esboz-Brest: Water and Trails
Accommodation in Esboz-Brest
Esboz-Brest appeals to travelers interested in bodies of water and trails in nature. Several themes come together in the village and surrounding countryside: a stream, numerous bodies of water, opportunities to spot swans and herons, and routes for walking and mountain biking. When planning, it is worth considering the characteristics of each: the banks and vegetation at Étang des Brosses, and the length, scenery, or terrain along the trails. This gives you points of reference both for choosing a nature theme and for assessing specific routes.
Bodies of Water and Wildlife Watching
Esboz-Brest has 38 bodies of water. The Vay de Brest stream runs through the village and is popular with anglers. Swans and herons can be spotted in the countryside. Anglers can therefore use a specifically named stream as a point of reference, while birdwatching draws attention to the wildlife of the surrounding landscape.
The banks of Étang des Brosses are steep and partly shaded by Weymouth pines and gray willows. Hydrocotyle vulgaris grows along a ditch that flows into the Étang. Alongside the trees and shrubs on the banks, this species provides a distinct botanical point of interest at the inlet ditch. Étang des Brosses contained water in 2024.
Hiking and Walks
The Boucle des Bruyères is an accessible 11 km hiking trail. Its route passes through shady forests and meadows, by ponds and streams, and past a memorial site. The route can therefore be assessed both by its distance and by its sequence of forest, meadow, water, and memorial site.
Long walks through the countryside are also possible in Esboz-Brest. At the foot of the Plateau des Mille Étangs, the village is also one of the starting points for a tourist loop trail. Alongside a specific 11 km hike, longer walks and a starting point for a loop trail are therefore available as points of reference.
Other Trails: Chapel and Mountain Biking
During a hike recorded in 2024, the “Sur les pas de saint Colomban” loop trail passed through Esboz-Brest, by the chapel and cemetery. Check trail conditions before setting out.
The “Boucle courte mais technique” mountain biking loop passes ponds, runs through forests, and crosses hills. Its route also includes sections through small streams and steep descents. Esboz-Brest is an alternative starting point for this loop. As conditions can change with the terrain and environment, check trail conditions before riding.
Different points of reference are useful for comparing the routes: the Boucle des Bruyères is listed as 11 km long, while the mountain biking loop is characterized by its terrain and descents. This makes it possible to assess the hiking route by its distance and the mountain biking loop by its described features.
