Montbéliard offers a range of themes for a hotel stay: architecture and urban history, religious architectural history, hands-on science activities, and parks designed to bring visitors closer to nature. Château Montbéliard Wurtemberg stands on a rocky outcrop above the town. Its location makes the relationship between the building and the urban landscape immediately apparent. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus primarily on Renaissance architecture, a museum, events, or nature and science.

Architecture and urban history

The Heinrich-Schickhardt Trail is a three-kilometre walking tour through the historic centre. Its architectural focus is on Renaissance works. The route starts at the tourist office on Rue Henri Mouhot; the walk is estimated to take around two hours. Its length and approximate duration give you a clear framework if you are planning to include architecture in your itinerary.

The Hôtel Beurnier-Rossel, dating from 1772–1773, houses the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire of Montbéliard. This offers two different ways to explore the town’s history: a walking tour focused on Renaissance works, and a museum in a historic hôtel. Château Montbéliard Wurtemberg also makes its own architectural statement, rising on a rocky outcrop above the town.

Temple Saint-Martin and cultural history

Temple Saint-Martin is the oldest building in France built for Protestant worship that is still used for that purpose. Following its reopening in 2026, the cultural programme will continue: outside the times reserved for services, it hosts concerts, seminars, performances and conferences. If you want an event to be a highlight of your visit, check the specific date and take note of the times reserved for services.

The origins of Les Lumières de Noël are also part of Montbéliard’s cultural history. The event was launched in 1987 by the local traders’ association, the tourist office, the festival committee and the town of Montbéliard.

Discover science

In Parc Prés-la-Rose, the Pavillon des sciences offers playful exhibitions and hands-on ways to experience the natural sciences. The activities are also aimed at tourists. Hands-on workshops and a Fab Lab complement the exhibitions with interactive science activities. This lets you choose between the more architecture-focused Heinrich-Schickhardt Trail and a visit centred on scientific topics and trying things out for yourself.

Parc de l’île en mouvement combines a natural setting with the theme of movement. Its scientific discovery trail explores the perception of movement through games and information panels. The park is also a place for walking and biodiversity. This offers a different experience from the hands-on science activities at the Pavillon des sciences: here, nature, movement and information come together outdoors.

Parc du Près-la-Rose is located on a peninsula between the Allan and the Rhône-Rhine Canal and is home to a plant maze. Its setting between the two waterways and the maze give this park a distinctive geographical and botanical character. Together with Parc de l’île en mouvement, the parks offer a range of themes, from the plant maze to a discovery trail focused on movement and biodiversity.

Planning your trip

The Pays de Montbéliard Tourist Office’s visitor centre in Montbéliard is located along the EuroVéloroute 6 route and welcomes and provides information to boaters, cyclists and hikers. As route infrastructure can change, check the current route of the EuroVéloroute 6 before setting off. For planning purposes, a walking tour with an approximate duration of two hours differs from a visit for a concert, seminar or performance: for an event, the specific date and the times reserved for services are what matter.
