Discover Fournet-Blancheroche: Trails, Cliffs and Watchmaking
Accommodation in Fournet-Blancheroche
Fournet-Blancheroche brings together traces of watchmaking and architectural history, routes to cliffs and gorges, and fishing opportunities near Biaufond. When looking for a hotel, you can choose the focus of your stay: routes, local history or the specialities of Ferme Auberge Les Louisots.
Watchmaking and architectural history
The “Ferme, atelier d'horlogerie Dodane” at 12 route du Mont du Pré was rebuilt in 1880 and housed a watchmaking workshop where cylinder wheels were made. “La Grande Maison” also tells the story of the former watchmaking industry: the former watch factory once housed the customs offices and was later converted into a residence. Together, they offer a contrast between workshop production and the changing use of a factory building.
The Barrage du Refrain also has its own construction history: it was rebuilt and raised by 2.89 m in 1956–1957.
Walking and mountain-biking routes
The Goumois–Fournet-Blancheroche stage of the “Grande Traversée du Jura à VTT” is 19 km long, with a stated duration of 1 hr 16 min. Check the route and duration again before setting out. The “La Combe de Biaufond” walking route is 10.37 km long and leads to the “Gorges de la Ronde,” a wild, lush gorge with high cliffs, stones, mosses and ferns. The two routes therefore differ in activity, length and destination: a mountain-bike stage and a walk to the gorge. Local trail conditions may change.
Another option is “Les crêtes – n° 53”: the route goes into the village of Fournet-Blancheroche and then runs below the climbing cliffs near the Belvédère de la Cendrée. Access and trail conditions may vary seasonally; take this into account when planning your trip.
Belvédère de la Cendrée
The Belvédère de la Cendrée takes its name from the colour of the limestone that makes up the massif. The cliffs provide nesting sites for several bird species. Birdlife varies by season, so do not expect to see wildlife on every visit.
Fishing near Biaufond
The access road to Biaufond leads on from Fournet-Blancheroche. Fishing is possible there from the bridge and from the French bank. A path to the bank begins about 75 m before the bridge. Check the regulations in force before fishing. The approximately 75 m refers to the distance to the start of the path, not the length of the path.
