Vandières – Vineyards, Champagne and Heritage
Accommodation in Vandières
Vandières combines a distinctive vineyard landscape with specific attractions for those interested in culture and Champagne. The town lies in a hollow on the hillside and is surrounded by vineyards. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose different areas of focus: local Champagne experiences, the history of Église Saint-Martin, or time on the walking trails within the municipality.
Landscape, walking trails and Véloroute
The hillside location and surrounding vineyards shape the landscape. At the same time, the Brandouille and its associated wetlands have been designated as an ecological corridor for wetland habitats, which is to be restored. Thus, wetlands and their ecological function, as well as viticulture, are part of Vandières’ landscape.
Numerous walking trails cross the municipal area. For cyclists, the Véloroute 52 in the Marne Valley is also relevant: it extends as far as the Vandières lock. These details offer two different points of reference for planning: a network of walking trails within the municipality and a named endpoint on the Véloroute. If you would like to plan your stay around outdoor activities, you can take both aspects into account separately.
Champagne tours and tastings
For 2026, Champagne Nowack offers a tour of the press and cellar, with an introduction to dégorgement à la volée. The visit ends with a tasting of Champagne and Ratafia. Arrangements may change, so confirm the visit details in advance. Champagne de l’Argentaine also offers a tour of its premises.
The Champagne Christelle Salomon family estate covers 3 hectares in Vandières on the right bank of the Marne. By reservation, it invites visitors to tour the estate and taste its Champagne. Reservation and opening arrangements may change, so it is advisable to confirm the details before your visit. The experiences differ in how they are described: at Nowack, the press and cellar are included in the tour; at Christelle Salomon, it is the estate. Both visits include a tasting, but different products are mentioned.
Église Saint-Martin: a building history spanning several centuries
The first Église Saint-Martin de Vandières was built in the 11th century. Features preserved from its history include wooden pews from the mid-18th century; the covered porch was restored in the 19th century. The church also preserves numerous glazed floor tiles from the 15th century. These tiles were designated as a protected object on 23 October 1908. Their age and protected status are two separate historical details: the date refers to when the tiles were made, while the designation refers to their later protection.
Washhouses and Château de Vandières
The town’s washhouses are other historical points of interest. Lavoir de la Fontaine des Morts was rebuilt; Lavoir de la rue Gamache is an enclosed structure. The name of Lavoir de Trotte comes from a hamlet of medieval origin. These three examples offer different perspectives on local history: reconstruction, architectural form and the origin of a name.
Château de Vandières is also part of the town’s history. It is privately owned and belonged to the Cauchon family from the 14th to the 16th century. When choosing a place to stay in Vandières, these themes offer different points of interest: vineyards and Champagne experiences, trails through the municipal area, or historic buildings. This makes it possible to tailor your stay to the interests that matter to you when travelling.
