Pierry reveals itself through different facets of its heritage: a themed trail, the Église Saint-Julien, the Château de Pierry and Champagne experiences. These highlights raise different questions when planning a trip: are you most interested in the landscape, religious architecture, the history of a wine estate, or the production and tasting of Champagne? If you are looking for a hotel in Pierry, these interests can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.

Explore Pierry on a themed trail

The Balade au XVIIIe siècle is a three-kilometre themed trail through Pierry. It showcases the town’s architectural, historical and natural heritage. There are 14 information panels along the route, as well as a viewpoint. From there, you can enjoy a panorama of the surrounding slopes. The panels and viewpoint offer two different ways to engage with the trail: one provides information about Pierry’s heritage, while the other turns your attention to the landscape. At three kilometres, the route’s length is easy to factor into your day’s plans.

Church architecture and the history of the Château

The Église Saint-Julien de Pierry is notable for its richly decorated stained-glass windows and the tomb of Frère Oudart. Its layout also offers a specific architectural detail: a wide central aisle flanked by two side aisles. The furnishings, tomb and church interior provide different points of interest for anyone interested in the town’s religious and architectural heritage.

The Château de Pierry was built around 1734 as a wine estate and is linked to the origins of Champagne. On a visit, you can explore the reception rooms in the main building, the large English-style garden and the outbuildings. Other areas open to visitors include a gallery dedicated to the kings of France and the dynasties of Champagne, the Champagne attic, and the press museum with its vaulted cellar dating from the monastic period. Each area has a different focus, from the reception rooms and garden to the historical themes of the gallery and press museum. Visiting arrangements may change, so check them before your visit.

Champagne experiences and seasonal conditions

Champagne Vollereaux is a family-run business in Pierry that has been producing Champagne there for six generations. One of its offerings is a one-hour guided cellar tour with a tasting of three Champagnes, available to individuals and groups alike. There is also a vineyard picnic with a guided cellar tour. For this experience, the cellar tour is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the picnic from noon to 2 p.m. The full experience lasts three hours; a minimum of four people is required, and booking must be made 72 hours in advance. The picnic is seasonal and available from April to September. As the programme may change, check the current conditions with the provider before making plans.

The two options differ mainly in duration and setting: the one-hour cellar tour combines a guided visit and tasting, while the three-hour experience also includes a vineyard picnic and requires a minimum number of participants and advance booking. At the Château, guided Champagne tastings may take place in the press cellar or in the château gardens, depending on the season. Pierry thus offers several different ways to explore the area, from architecture and local history to guided Champagne experiences.
