In Louvois, the grain-growing plain, forest, and vineyards of the Montagne de Reims meet; the town is also strongly shaped by Champagne culture. If you’re looking for a hotel in Louvois, you can choose your destination based on the themes that matter to you: history and parkland, walks, or tours with tastings. A helpful first overview distinguishes between the Château de Louvois and its history, walking trails of different lengths, and the various cellar and tasting experiences on offer.

Château de Louvois: History and heritage protection

The Château de Louvois was rebuilt between 1678 and 1681 on the site of the medieval castle. Jules Hardouin-Mansart designed the park’s layout; Le Nôtre refined the design of individual areas. The château’s history and the development of its grounds are among the town’s defining cultural themes.

By decree of July 2, 2015, the Château’s park and grounds, the château’s façades and roofs, the moats, the entrance gate, the orangery, and the surrounding wall were listed as a historic monument. Nineteenth-century buildings are excluded. The Orangerie de Mansart at the Domaine de Louvois has been restored.

Compare walking trails by distance

The historic countryside walk Balade historique et champêtre du Val-de-Livre is 5 km long and available through the Idvizit mobile app. Before setting out, check both the route’s availability and access to the app. The Circuit du Grand Val is a 14 km educational walking trail; you should also check its route details before setting out. The distances offer a direct comparison: the Circuit is 9 km longer than the 5 km walk.

Tours and Champagne culture

On the guided tour of the Distillerie Guillon, the route begins on a forest trail and ends with a guided tasting in a former hunting lodge that is almost 400 years old. This means the same tour includes both the walk and a tasting in a historic building. As tour times may change, check the current schedule in advance.

The visitor route at Champagne Guy de Chassey includes vaulted cellars, a wine and food tasting, and a cellar tour. Champagne Guy de Chassey’s vineyard is located in the Grand Cru-classified communes of Louvois and Bouzy. Before your trip, check the visitor route details and booking conditions.

The connection to wine is also reflected in art: an old wine vat in Louvois was transformed into a work of art by visual artist Alex Rise Up. If you specifically want to see the work, check where it is currently on display locally.
