Rouziers-de-Touraine offers two hiking trails with different profiles, as well as several historical and cultural points of interest. When choosing a route, the length, approximate duration, difficulty level, and trail marking color are relevant for both Le Moulin de Crouteau and Le Bois Bourdeil. Other attractions include the Église Saint-Symphorien, a former post office dating from the 19th century, the Prieuré de l’Encloître en Chaufournais, and the Musée des Outils et Objets d’Autrefois. This lets you factor hiking time and your interest in architecture, art, or history into your travel plans.

Hiking Trails Compared

Le Moulin de Crouteau is 7.2 kilometers long; the hike takes about two hours. It is considered easy and is marked in blue. The starting and ending point is Place de l'église, and the route passes through the center of Rouziers-de-Touraine. The approximate duration and stated difficulty level help you assess the route in terms of time and ability. The two-hour estimate is approximate, not an exact, minute-by-minute instruction.

Le Bois Bourdeil is 12.5 kilometers long, takes about three hours, is considered moderate, and is marked in yellow. Compared with Le Moulin de Crouteau, the route is 5.3 kilometers longer; the approximate duration is about an hour greater, and the difficulty is also rated differently. If you are mainly comparing time and stated difficulty, the two profiles are easy to distinguish. Le Bois Bourdeil passes through Bourmay and offers views of the private Étang de Bourmay. So, alongside length and duration, the routes also feature different landscapes: the town center on Le Moulin de Crouteau, and Bourmay with views of the private pond on Le Bois Bourdeil.

Church, Priory, and Historical Landmarks

The Église Saint-Symphorien has a 12th-century apse, stained-glass windows by Lobin, and a polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin Mary. Polychrome means multicolored and describes the statue’s design. The apse points to the building’s history, while the windows and statue of the Virgin Mary are specific features of its interior. Architecture and works of art can thus be found side by side in one building; the 12th-century date refers to the apse.

The former post office is also one of Rouziers-de-Touraine’s architectural landmarks. It dates from the 19th century; the word “former” records its past function. A precisely dated reference to an earlier period is the Prieuré de l’Encloître en Chaufournais: it was founded in 1103 as a priory of the Fontevristines and was one of the first 150 priories founded by Robert d’Arbrissel. The founding year and its place in this early group give the priory’s history a specific time frame.

The Musée des Outils et Objets d’Autrefois recreates the atmosphere of an old school classroom. This adds another vivid point of interest to the religious and architectural landmarks: a depiction of a historic classroom.
