Braye-sous-Faye for Your Trip Planning

Braye-sous-Faye offers several ways to plan a stay: local history centred on the church and garden, the traditional Fête du Bois du Temple, and walking trails of varying lengths. Depending on the purpose of your trip, you can focus on architectural and garden heritage, a festival date or a hike.

Church and Garden

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Braye-sous-Faye dates from the 12th century and is in the village centre, in the Bourg. A garden adjoining the church surrounds the former presbytery, which dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. This brings together different periods of construction in one place: the 12th-century church and the former presbytery from later centuries.

The garden areas, laid out since 1990, include a rose garden, perennials and summer flowers, trained fruit trees, and a vegetable garden. The design combines flowering plants with fruit and vegetables. If you are interested in cultural heritage and gardens, these features, together with the history of the church and former presbytery, can be a focus of your trip.

Fête du Bois du Temple

The Fête du Bois du Temple is a traditional event in Braye-sous-Faye and has reached its 41st edition. One edition included a flea market, music, a market featuring regional products and a fireworks display. The programme may vary from one edition to another. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the edition you wish to attend separately.

Walking Trails and Distances

The PR walking trail “Chemin de la Collégiale” is signposted in Braye-sous-Faye and is 19.4 km long. The “À la découverte des moulins” walking trail is listed as 10.3 km. The difference in length between the two routes is therefore 9.1 km; “À la découverte des moulins” is the shorter route.

“Braye-Sous-Faye – Sentier pédestre n°2” is described as a moderately difficult circular hike covering 18.2 km, with a stated duration of four hours. Its length falls between those of the other two routes mentioned. The loop starts and ends at the car park by the community hall and passes through Braye-sous-Faye and Faye-la-Vineuse. Check the route information before setting out.

In the surrounding area, Sentier pédestre n°2 runs along the south side of the wall of the Domaine de Richelieu, continues to Mosson and Étang Marnay, and reaches a windmill on the border with the Vienne department. On Mosson’s old feudal mound, a farm, the remains of a chapel and a well have been preserved. One route passes first through a pine forest and then through a deciduous forest.
