La Loupe
Accommodation in La Loupe
La Loupe combines historic architecture with attractions that explore art and local history in different ways. Fishing and hiking are also represented by specific places and themes. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider which of these interests you would like to shape your stay when choosing your destination.
Architecture at the Château
Today's Château of La Loupe was built in 1665 to plans by Vauban. A large corps de logis, or main building of a château estate, has been preserved. On the park side, the projecting section of the building has two niches on each floor, framing the large window. This brings together the date of the building and a specific architectural detail. The repeated arrangement of the niches gives the façade a clear rhythm. For architecture enthusiasts, La Loupe offers more than a date: the layout of the preserved section is also part of the Château's character.
Art and local history
The Médiathèque l'Escapade houses a Micro-Folie. Artworks are shown on a large screen, and visitors can use tablets to assemble paintings as puzzles. The program also includes operas and films with high-quality sound. These formats combine art appreciation with playful activities and audiovisual content. The Micro-Folie thus offers a different cultural focus from the Château's architecture.
The Caves de l'Histoire explore another part of the area's history. In this immersive, playful experience, visitors can relive a day in 1944. The local history is then explained in the Salon Résistance, in the Passage La Loupe bombardée and through accounts of life in 1944. The experience thus moves from a staged scene to several specific themes from La Loupe's history. The Caves de l'Histoire are open year-round on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Check the opening hours again before your trip.
Board games and outdoor activities
The traditional “Si On Jouait” games festival takes place in La Loupe. It is a family event for everyone, intended to introduce visitors to the world of board games or give them the chance to discover it anew. If you are considering making the festival the occasion for your trip, check the announced event dates.
For hiking enthusiasts, the new route of the GR® 35 is a specific trail to consider: it runs between La Loupe and Thiron-Gardais and opened in 2023. Alongside the cultural themes, this named hiking route offers a distinct focus for planning your trip.
Another activity to consider is the Étang du Petit Gasloup. The 3,500 m² pond is in the heart of the municipality of La Loupe. It was designed and created to make it easier to learn how to fish. It is also the first fishing trail in the Eure-et-Loir département to receive the “Découverte” label. Its explicit focus on learning sets it apart from the GR® 35: here, fishing is the main activity, while the GR® 35 follows a hiking route.
