Church and Architectural History
The Église Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul has been classified as a Monument historique since July 8, 1911. It dates from the 12th to the 15th century and combines Burgundian Romanesque architecture with Gothic art. Its architectural character is shaped by a low nave and a large, richly ornamented choir. A guide in four languages is available to visitors to the church; check whether it is currently available before your visit. The Amis du Patrimoine organize concerts in the church every year. For specific dates, consult the current program.
Other Traces of Local History
Other buildings and features of local history also shape Ligny-le-Châtel. The village has three washhouses; the large washhouse stands opposite the Église Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul and is considered an emblematic building. The Bief still follows its original course along the western fortification wall of the town. The Calvaire Saint-Hubert, also known as the Croix de Montmorency, is located at the entrance to the Ferme des Comtés on the D121. It dates from the late 18th century and was restored in 2003.
