Cuisery brings together book culture, local history, nature and activities on the water. As you plan your trip, you can prioritise these highlights according to your interests: would you like to stroll through historic places, take time for books and encounters, or discover nature and astronomy? Marked walking loops and excursions on the Seille or Saône are also part of what the area has to offer.

Books and encounters at the Village du Livre

The Village du Livre brings together 17 book specialists in former shops in the town centre. They include booksellers, antiquarian bookshops, record dealers, book artisans and artists. Literary events and book sales take place there throughout the year. The variety of activities makes the Village a place where different sides of book culture meet—from books and records to book crafts.

A book market open to professionals and the public takes place on the first Sunday of every month. If you are planning a visit, this regular event offers a specific date to keep in mind. From March to October, guided tours of the Église Notre-Dame also take place on the first Sunday of each month. During these months, the book market and church tours therefore fall on the same day of the week and monthly date.

Discover local history on walking tours

The historic walking tour uses 20 panels to present the history of Cuisery, its landmarks and notable figures. Inaugurated in 2017, it is approximately 2.2 kilometres long. Leaflets are available from the town hall or tourist office. The walk can thus be paired with brief information about the places and people featured along the route.

Cuisery also has three marked walking loops that explore the town’s architectural heritage and landscapes. One is the 5.5-kilometre black-marked “de la Seille au Tacot” loop. It passes through the Village du Livre to the Seille, which is classified as a Natura 2000 site. The route then follows the Chemin du Rempart and passes bocage meadows before reaching the wooded areas of the former Chemin du Tacot. The distance and trail marking help distinguish this loop from the other two.

Art and astronomy

The Église Notre-Dame houses a 16th-century triptych. The paintings, from the Flemish school, were painted by Guérard. If you would like to visit the church as part of a guided tour, you can consider the dates mentioned: the first Sunday of each month from March to October.

The Centre Eden museum presents the diversity and richness of Burgundy’s natural environments. Exhibits include live or taxidermied animals, as well as interactive audiovisual displays. Here, nature is explored through observation and multimedia interpretation.

Astronomy is also part of the Centre Eden programme: it has a permanent and a mobile planetarium, and offers astronomy courses, introductions and other activities for anyone interested in discovering the universe. Cuisery thus brings together a range of learning and discovery themes, from local natural environments to astronomy.

On the Seille and Saône

Les Pagaies de la Bresse in Cuisery rents canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for various routes on the Seille and Saône. Advance booking is required. Excursions on either river range from 7 to 39 kilometres and last between 2.5 hours and three days. This range includes both shorter outings and multi-day excursions; distance and duration can be considered together when planning.

Whether you are interested in a walking loop, an event focused on books or the church, a visit to the Centre Eden, or time on the water, Cuisery offers several distinct themes to shape your trip around.
