You can focus on different things during a stay in Chaudenay: architectural history, cuisine rooted in the local terroir, or cycling along the Voie des Étangs. Historical landmarks include Château de Mimande, Église Saint-Véran, a 12th-century manor house and the Croix de Créteuil. If you’re looking for a hotel, consider what you want to focus on: should architectural history, a meal at Chez Armand or a cycling trip shape your stay?

Château de Mimande and Église Saint-Véran

The main construction phases of Château de Mimande in Chaudenay date from the 17th and 19th centuries. A chapel adjoins the main building, and outbuildings are arranged around a courtyard. The château also has a walled park with three gates. The grounds’ layout and various features are therefore central, alongside their construction dates. The main building, chapel, courtyard buildings and walled park offer several clearly distinct aspects of the architecture. If you classify historic sites by their design, you can look separately at the building, the courtyard layout and the enclosure.

Église Saint-Véran was built at the beginning of the 13th century on the site of a chapel mentioned since the 10th century. Since 10 March 1992, the church has been listed in France’s Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments. Its architecture combines characteristic elements of 13th-century Burgundian style with a flat, Romanesque-style Cistercian chancel. Two aspects are important to its classification: its Burgundian stylistic features and the Romanesque-influenced Cistercian form of the chancel. At the same time, the church’s historical roots reach back to the earlier-mentioned chapel. In chronological terms, this church predates the main construction phases of Château de Mimande by a considerable margin.

Other historical landmarks

The 12th-century manor house is one of Chaudenay’s attractions. The Croix de Créteuil dates from the fourth quarter of the 15th century and is located at 35 Créteuil in Chaudenay. The manor house thus provides an older historical reference point than the date of the cross; the address of the Croix also gives a precise location. Together, these two places add further historical periods to the architectural history of the château and church.

Cuisine rooted in the local terroir

Chez Armand is a restaurant at Château de Mimande serving cuisine that brings food from the farm to the table. The menu features simple, unadulterated products rooted in the local terroir. The meat selection includes beef and mutton; the meat comes directly from the restaurant’s own farm, 20 minutes from Chassagne-Montrachet. The menu thus connects the products’ ties to the terroir with specific information about the meat’s origin. Menus and restaurant details may change; check the latest information before a planned visit if it matters to your meal planning.

Cycling on the Voie des Étangs

Cycling on the Voie des Étangs is a recommended activity for visitors to Chaudenay. This offers a different focus from architectural history and cuisine: here, the emphasis is on a specific cycling route. Route conditions and signage may change independently; check both before setting off. This can help you decide whether historic architecture, the culinary offerings or a cycling trip should shape your stay in Chaudenay.
