Luzy combines historic landmarks with trails through a landscape shaped by hills, forests and natural meadows. In the town, traces of the past range from the Tour des Barons to the Aubusson tapestries in the town hall; other routes follow the Alène and lead into the surrounding area. Luzy lies at the southern gateway to the Morvan Regional Natural Park. If you are looking for a hotel in Luzy, you can tailor your stay to specific interests, such as local history and crafts, a riverside walk, or hiking and mountain biking trails.

Heritage and museums in Luzy

The Tour des Barons is the only surviving remnant of the former Château de Luzy and dates from the 14th century. Its museum is devoted to the lives of local people and displays old farming equipment. In summer, the Comité Patrimoine Culture et Tourisme Luzycois welcomes visitors to the Tour des Barons. The fortifications also tell the story of the town: these include the wall along Rue des Fossés and two restored 15th-century defensive towers.

Eight Aubusson tapestries are displayed in the ceremonial hall of the town hall, depicting the biblical story of Esther. They date from the first quarter of the 18th century and were made from wool and silk using a tapestry-weaving technique used in Aubusson. The tapestries were classified as historic monuments in 1903. Visits to the tapestry hall are arranged through the town hall secretariat; additional access is available during Heritage Days. Check the visiting arrangements with the town hall before planning your visit.

The Musée du Moulin preserves numerous components and mechanisms of the mill to illustrate the site’s authenticity. Its presentation combines the past with the present. The Musée des machines agricoles on Rue Lafond has a different technical focus and serves as an exhibition space for the Les vieilles mécaniques association.

Riverside and Morvan trails

The Sentier de l’Alène is a two-kilometre family loop starting at Place de l’Église and following the Alène River. The route includes play areas, a fitness trail and interpretive panels providing information about the river and its surroundings. The trail is free, can be walked independently at any time and is suitable for children. As operating conditions can change, check the latest information before setting out.

The loop along the Alène is a clearly described option for a riverside walk. There are also numerous hiking and mountain biking trails in and around Luzy, through a well-preserved natural environment. The landscape is shaped by hills, forests and natural meadows; from Luzy, there are panoramic views of the forested Mont-Beuvray massif. Electric bikes can be rented to explore Luzy and the surrounding area. Check in advance whether rentals are available on your chosen date.

One named mountain bike route is the GTMC “Étang–Luzy–Étang”: it leads to Luzy and continues to Cuzy and its pond. If you plan to ride this route, check transport arrangements before setting off. This gives you a choice of outdoor activities, from the family-friendly loop along the Alène to mountain biking trails in the surrounding area.

Music festivals and travel planning

Music is also part of Luzy’s cultural offering. The Fête du violon (Cordes en folie) brings together popular fiddle traditions from France and around the world, spanning older and current, traditional and contemporary forms of music. The Fête de l’accordéon (Soufflets en fêtes) is open to everyone and features concerts, dances, workshops and other events focused on traditional music. If you are planning a trip around one of the festivals, check the event dates in advance.

For outdoor activities, consider the loop along the Alène, other hiking trails or mountain biking options. This lets you choose a hotel in Luzy to suit the themes you want to explore during your stay.
