Nature and heritage offer different focal points. The places and activities below provide concrete ideas, whether you would rather spend your time hiking, observing nature or exploring the history of the area.

Hiking and reading the landscape

The signposted Puy de Vaurs hiking trail starts at the church square in Arpajon-sur-Cère. It is 8 kilometres long, with an elevation difference of 100 metres. These details give you a concrete framework for planning a hike during your stay. Explanatory materials are available for the trail, covering flora, hedge berries, local rocks, traditional building methods, water and landscape interpretation. Combining the trail details with the explanatory materials helps you consider both the length of the hike and the topics that interest you along the way.

Explore nature in your own way

Another nature-focused destination is La Plantelière, a 7-hectare site in Arpajon-sur-Cère where you can discover flora and fauna. The site is open to the public year-round and can be explored independently with the help of information panels. Three orienteering courses are named “petit explorateur”, “pépiniéiste” and “arpenteur”. The themed gardens include the fragrance garden, the taste garden and the honey garden, as well as the “Jardin du bon dieu” and the “Jardin du diable”. While Puy de Vaurs is described as a signposted hiking trail with a stated length and elevation difference, La Plantelière focuses on observing nature, independent exploration and orienteering courses.

Castle and archaeological remains

The privately owned Château de Conros is a medieval castle dating from the 13th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 30 September 1911. Visits are not currently possible; you can see the castle from the surrounding paths. A 4th-century sarcophagus is on display in the church of Arpajon-sur-Cère. It was discovered in 1988 near a Gallo-Roman wall of the former church. The castle and sarcophagus offer different historical points of interest: one is a structure visible from the outside, while the other is an archaeological artefact inside the church.

Park views, forests and the Cère

Puy Gioli is a partly shaded park on a hill behind the social and cultural centre of Arpajon-sur-Cère. From there, you can enjoy views of Arpajon-sur-Cère and part of Aurillac. For a different landscape, take a walk at Pont de Couffin, where panoramas of the Monts du Cantal alternate with refreshing forests. The Cère in Arpajon-sur-Cère is suitable for fishing. These options give you different ways to enjoy the outdoors—from a park with views of the town, to a walk through changing scenery, to fishing.
