Discover Thann
Accommodation in Thann
Thann combines a strong connection to wine with historic attractions. The Rangen and the Alsace Wine Route put wine at the heart of the experience, while the ruins of Château de l’Engelbourg and the museums offer further insights into the town’s history. For planning, specific differences are useful: the wine trail offers two route lengths, while the walk to the château has a stated duration from the town centre. A festival held on the same date every year adds to the picture.
Rangen Vineyard and the Wine Route
Thann is the starting point of the famous Alsace Wine Route. The Rangen vineyard covers 18.5 hectares and is classified as Grand Cru across its entire area. The wine trail through the Rangen adds a specific route to this wine experience: it has 18 information panels and its own waymarking.
The routes differ in length and character: an easy 3 km family route and a more challenging 5 km route leading to the Croix du Rangen. This lets you factor both the distance and the difficulty rating into your plans. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
Walk to Château de l’Engelbourg
The ruins of Château de l’Engelbourg are known as the “Witch’s Eye”. They can be reached on foot from Thann town centre in 30 minutes. Plan the walk as a separate activity and bear in mind that trail conditions may change.
A digital experience published on 27 August 2025 explores the château’s history. It combines virtual reality, augmented reality and mini-games for children and adults. Check whether the app is available before your trip.
Museums and local history
The former Halle aux Blés dates back to 1519 and houses a museum of art and local history. As museum arrangements may change, check current visiting options before your visit.
The Musée de la société d’histoire « Les Amis de Thann » is recognised as a « Musée de France ». The Musée des Amis de Thann has collections on the history of Thann, Alsatian folk art, traditional crafts, winegrowing and industrial history. Alongside architectural history, the collections also focus on culture, work and winegrowing.
An annual event
Every year on 30 June, Thann commemorates the legend of its founding with the «Crémation des trois sapins». If your trip falls on this date, check the programme in advance and plan your day accordingly.
