Biesheim combines cultural attractions with outdoor activities and nature. The Musée gallo-romain explores Gallo-Roman civilization and the military presence. A guided boat trip is available on the Giessen, whose banks provide habitat for numerous bird species. The fitness trail, cycling routes, a pump track, a weekly market and the Médiathèque programme add to the range of things to do.

Gallo-Roman Heritage

The permanent exhibition at the Musée gallo-romain is divided into four thematic sections. It explores Gallo-Roman civilization and the military presence. The museum displays collections from a large Gallo-Roman settlement north of the municipality, on the site of the vanished medieval village of “Oedenbourg”. Guided tours are offered in French and German. If you are planning a guided tour, check the dates before your trip.

Trails, Outdoor Activities and Cycling

The Biesheim fitness trail runs for almost 3 kilometres through the municipal forest and includes 20 obstacles. A botanical trail follows its route, introducing visitors to various tree species. This lets you combine exercise and botanical discoveries along the same route.

The pump track is located on a restored former industrial site near the Giessen. It is intended for sports and recreational use with BMX bikes, roller skates, skateboards and scooters. For planning purposes, the options are distinct: the fitness trail is an almost three-kilometre route with obstacles, while the pump track is a facility for various wheeled and riding equipment.

Biesheim’s cycling network covers 20 kilometres and connects Kunheim, Volgelsheim, Neuf-Brisach and other villages. It also includes a section of the European “Véloroute Rhin” route. These places give an idea of the connections offered by the network; the Véloroute Rhin is one section of it.

Boat Trips and Nature on the Giessen

The boat trip on the Giessen lasts 45 minutes. It takes place in a flat-bottomed boat with a skipper and departs from the former slaughterhouse at Rue du Stade, 68600 Biesheim. Seasonal operating details and departure arrangements may vary; check the dates and departure point before your trip. Reed beds and small stands of willows and poplars line the banks of the Giessen and provide habitat for numerous bird species. So alongside the boat trip, the riverside vegetation and birdlife are also among the natural attractions by the water.
