Betschdorf combines a cultural highlight with nature watching and outdoor activities. At the Musée de la Poterie, salt-glazed stoneware ceramics shape the way you see the town. Wet meadows, forest and marked trails offer different perspectives; there is also a pump track and an inclusively designed park. When choosing a hotel, you can consider whether you want to focus mainly on culture, nature or active time outdoors during your stay.

Pottery at the Musée de la Poterie

The Musée de la Poterie has an extensive collection of salt-glazed stoneware ceramics in the gray-blue style typical of Betschdorf. A reconstructed pottery workshop complements the collection. This puts both the material and its characteristic coloring, as well as the craft of pottery, at the center of attention. The museum is housed in a half-timbered building dating from the early 18th century. For culture enthusiasts, the ceramic collection is thus combined with a historic architectural style. The collection, workshop and building each give a visit to the museum its own distinctive focus, without requiring another thematic emphasis.

Wet meadows, forest and birdwatching

South of Betschdorf, wet meadows provide a food source for white storks, grey herons and snipes. The Betschdorf Forest offers a different natural setting: it covers about 1,100 hectares, and several streams cross it and flow south into the Sauer. The forest is used for recreation, sports and birdwatching. The wet meadows and forest therefore offer different points of interest for nature enthusiasts: the meadows connect three bird species with their feeding grounds, while the forest is a place for birdwatching, sports and recreation. The approximate area and stream system also give an idea of the forest’s size and natural character.

Get active on the pump track and fitness trail

The pump track, opened by the municipality of Betschdorf in May 2024, can be used with scooters, bicycles, skateboards and roller skates. Its three interconnected tracks are designed for beginners, intermediate riders and experienced users, and together extend for about 300 meters. The designated levels distinguish the tracks by experience; the range of equipment listed shows that the facility is not intended for bicycles alone.

The marked Parcours de santé is located at the edge of the forest in the direction of Soufflenheim and is 2,500 meters long. Its 20 exercise stations are suitable for different fitness levels. Another option is the Sentier des potiers: this easy route is 33 kilometers long, and the stated duration is one to two days. Along the way, you can see pottery workshops in the villages of Betschdorf and Soufflenheim. The two routes differ in the time they require: the Parcours de santé covers 2.5 kilometers, while the 33-kilometer Sentier des potiers, with its stated duration, is a longer outing. Details of the Sentier des potiers route may change, so check them before planning your trip.

An inclusively designed park

Parc du Bannholz is inclusively designed and accessible, and is open to everyone. Its play equipment is designed for different age groups and abilities. This gives the park a different focus from the sports-oriented trails: here, the emphasis is on inclusive design and play. Together, the museum, natural areas and recreational facilities offer a variety of themes to shape your stay in Betschdorf.
