The Kamenets is also a point of reference for several nature and history topics. Local history and memorial sites
The first written mention of Stari Kuty dates to 1448. Historic memorial sites include a cross commemorating the abolition of serfdom in 1848. The «Skorbotna Maty» monument, created in 1967, is dedicated to the victims of the Second World War; I. Andriikanych is named as its sculptor. The grave of the Sich Riflemen is also located in the area.
Another memorial is the symbolic grave of the fighters for Ukraine’s freedom. It was consecrated on June 22, 1994, by UGCC Bishop Pavlo Vasylyk. A commemorative relief also recalls Ivan Franko’s stay in Stari Kuty: in the summer of 1993, it replaced a memorial plaque that had been installed on July 11, 1989, on the house of lawyer D. Kulyk. This sequence distinguishes the original plaque from the later relief.
Other monuments include the Taras Shevchenko monument, unveiled on May 22, 1994, and created by Vasyl and Volodymyr Odrekhivskyi, and the monument to Colonel Yevhen Konovalets. The latter was unveiled on January 10, 2010; its sculptor, Petro Shtaier, was from Lviv. The Pokrova Church in Stari Kuty dates to 1882. Another historic landmark in the area is the Demchuk (Kurchyk) family’s mill by the Kamenets stream.
