If you choose Dnipro as your destination, Monastyrskyi ostriv and walks through the city offer different highlights. One takes you through park and island areas; others draw attention to streets, squares and cultural sites.

Monastyrskyi ostriv: Park and Waterfall

Monastyrskyi ostriv is part of the recreational area of the central Taras Shevchenko Park. One of the island’s specific features is the artificial «Porih revuchyi» waterfall: it is 17 metres high and opened in 2013. The island is also home to the DNU Aquarium of Freshwater Fauna, named after O. Honchar. If you want to visit the aquarium specifically, check the visiting options in advance.

The island also has beaches and water sports clubs. Monastyrskyi ostriv thus brings together a range of features: the waterfall as an architectural focal point, the aquarium focused on freshwater fauna, and other recreational attractions. You can decide which of these matters most to your travel plans based on your interests.

Walks with Different Highlights

A walk published by the City History Museum takes one hour. The route goes through Taras Shevchenko Park, across the Merefo-Kherson Bridge to Monastyrskyi ostriv and the «Bashty» complex. It then continues along Festival Boulevard to the Central Bridge. If you plan to take this walk, check with the museum in advance to confirm that it is currently running. Its one-hour duration makes it easy to fit into your day’s schedule.

Another walk through the city centre takes in Troitska, Starokozatska and Voskresenska streets and squares. It connects three cultural institutions: the Museum of the History of Dnipro, the Vadym Sydur Museum and the Senator John McCain Library of the Ukrainian Diaspora. The two walks therefore offer different highlights: one links the park and island with bridges and other stops; the other takes you through named areas of the city centre and to museums and a library.

Mini-Sculpture Route and Other City Themes

Dnipro’s official tourist map lists the «Vidchui Dnipro» mini-sculpture route, as well as the «Dnipro Aristokratychnyi» and «Lehendy mista nad richkoiu» city walks. The «Vidchui Dnipro» project has an official tourist route to Dnipro’s mini-sculptures. The map may be updated, so if you are planning a specific visit, check the current map details and, if you choose a museum walk, confirm with the museum that it is running.

The tourist map also lists architectural landmarks, the waterfront, parks, art installations and important places in the city for walks and recreation. The options therefore range from named walks to individual city sites. If you are planning your trip around a particular interest, you can compare the island and park themes with the city-centre routes and cultural sites listed there.
