There are several ways to shape a stay in Nitrianske Rudno: spend time by the reservoir, explore routes through natural landscapes, or discover local history and culture. Each theme offers a different perspective on the area and can help guide your travel plans.

Reservoir and nature trail

In summer, the Nitrianske Rudno Reservoir is used for recreation; swimming and water sports are also possible then. Sport fishing takes place during the fishing seasons. The recreational area includes a public beach and a car camping site with additional facilities. The specific facilities available may change over time. Before your trip, check the latest information if particular facilities are important to your plans.

The 1,330 m-long nature trail by the reservoir is intended for the general visiting public and runs along the reservoir’s existing boundary. Information panels cover water, climate, the history of the municipality and features of the reservoir. The trail thus connects nature-related topics with local history and the reservoir itself.

The green-marked Rokošská radiála mountain bike route (No. 5317) is a different proposition. It is 25.6 km long and runs over asphalt, paved paths and forest tracks. The route reaches the Nitrianske Rudno Reservoir and then continues through the village. The nature trail and the mountain bike route are therefore two clearly distinct options: a 1,330 m-long trail by the reservoir and a cycling route over several types of surface.

Natural landscapes and trails

The cadastral area of Nitrianske Rudno includes Rokoš National Nature Reserve. Since 1974, Rokoš has been under the highest, fifth level of nature protection. A distinctive botanical feature is the presence of both Scots pine and downy oak: Rokoš is the only place in the Western Carpathians where both grow. As a result, montane and xerothermic vegetation overlap there.

A hiking trail in Nitrianske Rudno passes through beech, pine and oak forests, as well as meadows. Rock formations and views of the Rudnianska Valley are also part of this landscape. In addition, three marked hiking trails lead from Nitrianske Rudno to Košútova skala and Rokoš, Čierny vrch, and Boškovie laz.

The routes offer different experiences: the nature trail focuses on information about water, climate and the history of the municipality, while the marked hiking trails lead to named destinations. The described trail through forests and meadows complements these options with rock formations and views of the Rudnianska Valley.

Church, history and culture

The Roman Catholic church in Nitrianske Rudno was built from 1804 to 1816 on the site of a wooden church that had previously been destroyed by fire. It has a single nave, a straight-ended sanctuary and no presbytery separated from the nave. Its straight-ended form makes it one of the few churches of this kind in the Horná Nitra region. A monument to Fraňa Madva, erected in 1925, also stands in the church grounds.

Cultural life includes numerous events, both large and small, every year. The cultural and social events organized by the municipality include Rudnianske Days. If you would like to include an event in your stay, check the dates before your trip.

The regional musical tradition is also connected to the Rudnianska Valley. A folk music group performs songs from Upper Nitra and focuses in particular on this valley, where all its members come from. Along with the historic buildings and events, it offers another cultural highlight besides the trails and activities by the reservoir.
