Hozelec offers travelers several distinct highlights: a Neoclassical manor house, sacred art from the Late Gothic period, the Hozelské slaniská area and the FunVille indoor playground. This variety can help when choosing a destination, as cultural history, natural features and an indoor play area appeal to different interests. The following stops put Hozelec’s highlights into context and show how they differ.

Cultural history and architecture

The manor house in Hozelec was built in the last decades of the 18th century at the initiative of the Okolicsányi family. It is Neoclassical and is currently considered the municipality’s most valuable historic monument. An entry published by the Monuments Board in 2026 lists it as a national cultural monument, NKP Kúria, with identification number ÚZPF 876/1. The construction period, style and monument classification provide different points of reference: the period places the building in its historical context, while the style describes its architectural classification.

A much earlier point of reference is the Late Gothic main altar of the Suffering Christ. It was made between 1516 and 1520 in the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča for the Church of Saint Martin the Bishop. Comparing it with the manor house makes clear the considerable time gap between the two works of art and architecture.

A single-nave Gothic church dedicated to Saint Martin the Bishop was probably built in Hozelec around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It has not survived intact. Architectural fragments of the no-longer-preserved Gothic church are displayed in the center near the bell tower. Thus, both the probable date when the church was built and the fragments displayed today are among the different traces of the past to discover in Hozelec.

The Hozelské slaniská area

Hozelské slaniská is the current name of the Site of Community Importance SKUEV0139. It was previously called Gánovské slaniská; the decision to adopt the standardized name came into effect on September 20, 2023. Most of the area lies within the cadastral territory of Hozelec. The history of the name helps link the former and current names to the same area.

Features of Hozelské slaniská include mineral springs and more recently formed travertine deposits. The natural features therefore include both the springs and the deposits. This is a distinct highlight alongside the history of the town, reflected in its manor house, church and sacred art.

Route and indoor play

The “Po stopách neandertálcov” route runs through Hozelec. Along the route, there are several places to get refreshments, benches and educational information boards. If you would also like to include a route in your travel plans, these are useful details about the refreshments and points of interest along the way.

FunVille is an indoor playground beneath the Tatras in Hozelec. Its attractions cover 700 m² and include a large climbing and play structure, a car track, climbing walls, a Lego zone, a sports zone, ball pits, trampolines, air cannons, a fountain, slides and a slide or toboggan. The attractions may change; check which areas are currently available before your visit. Unlike the manor house, church and natural area, FunVille focuses on indoor play and activity.
