Regetovka: Moorland, Horse Riding and Winter Sports
Accommodation in Regetovka
Moorland, winter sports, horse riding and church architecture give Regetovka a variety of character. If you’re looking for a hotel for a trip here, the specific nature and leisure activities can help you choose the focus of your stay.
Moorland and distinctive plants
The Regetovské rašelinisko nature reserve was established in 1979 to protect well-preserved and unusual peat bog communities in eastern Slovakia. The bog, known locally as “Stav,” lies in a hollow surrounded by farmland and hillside meadows. This brings together different types of landscape: the protected bog, cultivated land and meadows on the slopes.
One botanical highlight is the bog arum (Calla palustris). Regetovské rašelinisko is its only known occurrence in eastern Slovakia. For nature enthusiasts, this adds a specific regional connection for this plant species to the bog habitats.
Hiking trail and educational trail
A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the centre of Regetovka to Regetovské rašelinisko; the route is about 0.6 km long. The Regetovské rašelinisko educational trail is 3.5 km long and has 13 stops. The distances offer different points of reference: the route from the village centre and the length of the themed educational trail.
The stops cover wetland flora and fauna, the water cycle and bog biodiversity, as well as meadow and forest ecosystems. The topics therefore extend beyond individual plants to introduce different habitats and natural processes. Markings may change, and the educational trail infrastructure may be altered or maintained inconsistently. Check the signage and conditions before your visit.
Winter sports and horse riding
At the Regetovka ski area, two ski lifts operate on the Dolný svah slope. Together, they have a capacity of 2,000 people per hour. Operating details may change; check them before your visit. The ski area has 5 km of cross-country trails, whose availability depends on snow conditions. Two different factors matter for planning: capacity describes the lift infrastructure, while snow conditions determine whether the trails can be used.
Another option is horse riding at Ranč Regetovka. The offerings include guided rides, riding lessons and nature rides of varying difficulty for children and adults. Guided rides in the surrounding area are intended for experienced riders and follow meadow and forest trails. Advance booking is required for these rides. When choosing, consider both the difficulty level and the experience required for guided tours.
Church and architectural history
The church “Chrám sv. Demetra veľkomučeníka” in Regetovka was built in 1893 in a mixed historicist style. Ukrainian Baroque and East Slovak Classicist elements predominate. This description therefore does not identify a single style, but a combination of different architectural influences. The interior furnishings also date from the time of construction, adding another feature of this period to the church building’s historical interest.
