Explore Rumanová through its architectural and landscape history, as well as along a themed walking trail. The castle and park, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary, individual monuments and the Meteorite Nature Trail each offer a different focus. If you’re planning your stay around cultural themes or a walking route, this variety offers practical points to help with your plans.

Castle and Park: History on Site

The castle and park are the oldest surviving architectural site in Rumanová. The castle was first mentioned in writing in 1663. The Andrássy family had the late-classical building constructed in the first half of the 19th century. These dates mark different stages in the castle’s history: the written mention is significantly earlier than the construction of the late-classical building.

Today, local residents and visitors use the park by the castle for recreation, relaxation and sports. The castle park is therefore not only part of the historic setting, but also a place to enjoy outdoor leisure. The Rumanovský park protected landscape area was designated in 1982 to protect the historic park by the castle.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary

The free-standing chapel stands on slightly elevated ground in the centre of Rumanová. It was originally built as a Baroque chapel without a tower in the first half of the 18th century; a tower was added in 1900. Its architecture has several other distinctive features: the building has a single nave, a semicircular apse and a flat interior ceiling. The tower is topped with an onion dome.

“Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; the apse is the semicircular end of the space. Together with the date when the tower was added, these features show a clear sequence of construction: the initially towerless Baroque chapel was followed by the addition made in 1900. Its slightly elevated location in the centre of the village also provides a clear point of reference if you want to place the chapel within Rumanová’s history.

Other Monuments in Rumanová

The Rumanová–Báb stone cross stands at the cadastral boundary beside the state road and was erected in 1790. The local cemetery contains the grave with a headstone (ÚZPF 1534/0), a national cultural monument dating from 1920. The two monuments differ in form and location: the cross stands by a road at the boundary, while the grave is in the cemetery.

On Foot Along the Meteorite Nature Trail

The Meteorite Nature Trail is a self-guided, linear walking route that can be walked in either direction. It is open year-round and focuses on natural history, astronomy and local cultural history. The route is easy, 1.4 kilometres long and listed as taking one hour to walk; there are three stops along the way. You can use the route’s length and duration to help plan your day.

The starting point is the statue of Saint Vendelín at the northern edge of Rumanová. From there, the trail follows a field path north to the Mikloš area, where there is a pond. The route combines a short walk with several thematic perspectives, without requiring you to join a guided group. As facilities and conditions in the area may change, check the trail conditions on site before setting out.
