For those looking to combine nature trails with local culture, Spišské Tomášovce offers a range of options. The natural area around Čingov lies within the cadastral territories of Smižany and Spišské Tomášovce, in the northern part of Slovenský raj National Park and within the third level of protection. The Prielom Hornádu National Nature Reserve also includes the cadastral territory of Spišské Tomášovce. Since 1964, it has covered 290 hectares.

Rocky Landscapes and Nature Trails

Tomášovský výhľad is a terraced rock formation on the southern slope of Ludmanka, 680 metres above sea level. In places, it rises about 145 metres above the Hornád River. The rock formation is also used as a climbing practice area. The shortest walking route there leads from Spišské Tomášovce along a green-marked trail: first across a meadow, then through a forest with a moderate incline. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The educational trail in Prielom Hornádu is open year-round. It has 16 stops with 20 information boards and can be accessed from Čingov. Another hiking option is the walk to Sovia skala, considered easy and comfortable, following good paths and trails. However, the ascent to Sovia skala includes a steeper climb; here too, it is advisable to check trail conditions in advance.

Tomášovský výhľad can also be reached by bike from Spišské Tomášovce via a cycling route. The K Tomášovskému výhľadu route runs from Spišské Tomášovce via Pri Tomášovskom výhľade to Ďurkovec. It passes through open rural countryside in the northern part of Slovenský raj and offers views of the Hornád Basin and the High Tatras. On foot, the route through meadow and forest is the main feature; the cycling route continues along its described course to Ďurkovec. Check the current condition of the route before setting off.

Churches, Archaeology and Historic Buildings

The present-day Church of St Michael the Archangel was built in the Gothic style in the first half of the 14th century and extensively remodelled in the Classicist style in 1827. It is listed in the Slovak Register of Immovable National Cultural Monuments under number UZPF 799. Beside the church stands a masonry Chapel of the Holy Trinity, built in 1766.

A significant Slavic hillfort stood at Čingov, on the border of the present-day cadastral territories of Spišské Tomášovce and Smižany. Archaeological excavations uncovered several dozen dwellings and farm buildings there. Other historic buildings include Kúria Tyba, of which a remnant survives; it was the seat of the Counts Andrássy and the Bartsch family. Today, only ruins remain of the former Renaissance manor house in Hadušovce.

The Kováčska vyhňa blacksmith’s forge and the sýpka granary were declared monuments by resolution No. 52 of the Spišská Nová Ves ONV Council on 22 March 1985. The remains of a brick oven or hearth have been preserved in the forge. The area’s historical landmarks thus range from archaeological finds to buildings and their surviving fabric.

Traditions and a New Cultural Landmark

Local customs also give a stay here a seasonal dimension. Visiting the Betlehemci at Christmas is a longstanding tradition in Spišské Tomášovce. During Fašiangy, a procession with spit-roasted food and music is held. On 31 May 2026, the statue of the Hadušovský Spišský Kopijník was unveiled here. It commemorates the tradition of the Spiš lance-bearing communities and their knights.
