If you are looking for a hotel in Krompachy, the interests that guide your trip can help you decide what to focus on: the town’s history, hiking or winter sports. Cultural and historical attractions include churches, memorial sites and industrial history; marked hiking trails, a cycling route and the SKI Plejsy ski resort are also relevant when planning your trip.

Churches, Remembrance and Local History

The Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist was built in 1774 on the site of an older church. The Evangelical Church was built between 1789 and 1791 on what is now Mikuláša Šprinca Street; a mining emblem is located above its entrance. The dates establish the chronology of the two churches, while the emblem offers another insight into their architectural history.

A memorial room dedicated to Mikuláš Šprinc and other notable people born in Krompachy opened in the Roman Catholic church building in 2004. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was built to commemorate the founding of the Diocese of Rožňava, whose patron saint he is. These sites represent different aspects of the town’s religious and cultural history.

The monument to the victims of the Krompachy Uprising was unveiled in 1971, on the 50th anniversary of the event. Every year, the town commemorates the uprising and its six victims at the town cemetery and on Družstevná Street, where the bloody events took place. The Holocaust memorial stands on the site of the former Jewish synagogue. Krompachy is also part of the signposted Gothic Route.

Industrial History and Hydropower

The Stará Maša ironworks included a reconstructed original blast furnace, a new engine hall and a hammer mill with a cupola furnace. The hammer mill produced about 1,900 tonnes of pig iron per year. The site’s industrial history can be traced through several components of the works and the recorded production volume.

The first hydroelectric power station in eastern Slovakia was built in 1889 on the canal of the Hornád River. If you are planning a visit, check current access and operating conditions in advance.

Festivals and Regional Food

The 18th edition of the long-running dance festival was scheduled for 2026. Pankuškové fašiangy is a traditional carnival event organized by the town. A tasting of traditional Spiš-region foods was announced for the 2026 edition, including Pankušky, Grajzupa, bean soup, cabbage soup, liwanzen and lángos. The 2024 program included contests to see who could eat Pankušky and sausages the fastest. Dates and programs for future editions may change.

Hiking, Cycling and Winter Sports

The hiking trails offer two routes of different lengths: a one-hour hike from Krompachy railway station to Plejsy follows blue and yellow marked trails. The blue-marked route from Krompachy via Galmus to Poráč is listed as taking three hours. Comparing the two helps you plan a hike that fits the time you have available. Krompachy’s hiking trail network is signposted with trail markers, directions and walking times; check the markings and local conditions before setting out.

A green-marked cycling route passes through Krompachy. Before setting off, check the current signage and surface conditions. Hills, valleys, forests and meadows shape the landscape around Krompachy. For winter sports, the SKI Plejsy ski resort has nine slopes of varying difficulty. Operating status and seasonal conditions may change; check them before planning a day on the slopes.
