Chorvátsky Grob
Accommodation in Chorvátsky Grob
Chorvátsky Grob brings together nature, local history and events as different focal points for a stay. These include Šúr National Nature Reserve, historic churches and the town’s Croatian-influenced history. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you decide whether nature, culture or an event is the main reason for your trip.
Churches and historical heritage
The Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King was built in 1589 during the reconstruction of an older Late Gothic religious building. The church preserves a monstrance from the early 16th century and a statue of the Virgin Mary from the second half of the 18th century. The two objects therefore date from different centuries. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity also has a precise date: it was built in 1880.
The town’s history also includes the settlement of Croatian colonists by the Svätý Jur estate in the mid-16th century. At Chorvátska izba, you can find historical and ethnographic exhibits, as well as examples of local crafts and traditions. A winter bridal costume from Chorvátsky Grob dates from the beginning of the 20th century. It consists of a blue wool skirt, a green bodice and a long mentieka—a distinctive historical clothing culture illustrated by these specific details.
More recent cultural history also has a dated milestone: in 2024, the local folklore ensemble Chorvatanka celebrated its 35th anniversary. Together with the older churches and the bridal costume, this offers different perspectives on the cultural life of the town across time.
Šúr Nature Reserve and nature trail
Šúr National Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral territory of Chorvátsky Grob and covers 991 hectares. Its protected features include a wetland with rare flora and fauna, as well as the remains of an original marshy alder forest with peat bog. This clearly defined protected landscape is a focal point if you want to connect your stay with nature.
The nature trail “Prírodné klenoty Šúru” offers a specific route: it ends at a road in Chorvátsky Grob, in the Čierna Voda district. The protected area describes the landscape on a broader scale, while the trail’s stated endpoint connects it to a specific district.
Horse riding and events
The Čierna Voda equestrian centre offers individual riding lessons with an instructor for children and adults. Rides in Šúr Nature Reserve are also available. As activity availability may vary, check in advance what is possible on your preferred date.
The equestrian centre can be reached by car and by public transport on bus route 630. As transport connections may change, check the bus service before travelling.
The celebration of Saint Urban includes a tasting and presentation of local wines by VÍNO HUGO. The tradition was revived in 2014 and continued annually through its tenth edition in 2024. If you would like to include the celebration in your trip, check the latest event dates.
The Grobský Runfest takes place in Chorvátsky Grob. The 2026 programme lists 5- and 12-kilometre races, as well as children’s races; it also includes a food zone and a children’s zone. The two events have different focuses: the celebration of Saint Urban centres on local wines, while the Runfest centres on its running programme. If an event date determines your stay, check the specific dates.
