In Pezinok District, wine-growing history, cultural heritage and the landscape of the Little Carpathians come together. The Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area partly extends across the district; its western section lies in the Pezinské Karpaty area of the Little Carpathians. This regional setting is well suited to a stay that combines visits to towns, museums and outdoor destinations.

Wine-Growing History and Tastings

The Malokarpatská vínna cesta brings together wine, landscape, history and gastronomy in an area that includes Svätý Jur, Pezinok and Modra. In Pezinok, the Malokarpatské Museum presents the history of wine-growing in the Little Carpathians and offers wine tastings with an emphasis on the experience. The wine-growing educational trail in Pezinok provides information about local wine, its history and production. Wine tastings are also offered during Vinobranie.

The experiences offer different focuses: the museum combines history and tastings, while the educational trail explores wine and its production. Vinobranie is another opportunity to enjoy wine tastings. If you plan to attend a tasting at the museum, check the booking terms in advance.

Historic Sites and Ceramic Art

In Pezinok, Šimák Castle is surrounded by a park. Svätý Jur offers its own historical connection for visitors: the town was granted the status of an Urban Monument Reserve in 1990. The remains of the Neštich hillfort from the Great Moravian period have also been preserved there. The Svätojurský educational trail consists of an urban circuit and a nature circuit.

The architecture of Budmerický kaštieľ also features distinctive details: the château is surrounded by an impressive English-style park and has a tall tower with a viewing gallery and a clock in the gable. Červený Kameň Castle served as a family residence for almost four hundred years. For a different cultural focus, Modra offers Slovenská ľudová majolika, with a guided tour and a pottery-wheel workshop. The Ignác Bizmayer Gallery is dedicated to the renowned Slovak ceramic artist. If you are planning a tour and workshop, it is advisable to check the booking terms in advance.

Trails, Views and Seasonal Activities

Near Modra, the Harmónia recreation area is connected to Piesok; hiking and cycling trails run through the area. Modra–Piesok is also home to the outdoor swimming pool near Zochova chata. Its operating schedule may vary by season. The grounds of Zochova chata also include a bike-park pump track.

Those interested in longer routes can explore two stages of the Cyril and Methodius Route: day four runs from Svätý Jur via Pezinok to Modra and is more than 22 kilometres long. On day five, the route runs from Modra via Zochova chata to Červený Kameň Castle.

Pezinská Baba is one of Slovakia’s best-known winter ski areas. Its winter operations may vary by season. This gives you several different options when planning your trip: wine-growing and tastings, historic sites, trails or a winter ski area.
