Jastrabá combines a distinctive landscape with clearly defined hiking and cultural attractions. When planning a trip, you can choose among several interests: a yellow-marked hiking trail to Jastrabská skala, landscape features such as Ostrá hora and Chomok, and the Church of St. Michael the Archangel and roadside chapels. If you’re looking for a hotel for your trip to Jastrabá, consider whether your main focus is hiking, nature watching or sacred architecture.

Hiking and Landscapes in Jastrabá

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Bartošova Lehôtka to Jastrabská skala. Check local trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.

Ostrá hora, a two-peaked basalt hill, lies southeast of Jastrabá. The Ostrohorská spring is on the way there, where a heart-shaped pond has been created. The route thus brings together a distinctive hill and a landscape feature with its own unique shape.

Ostrá hora is also notable for its own flora and fauna. Plants found here include Woodsia skalná, nátržník piesočný and skalná ruža; various bird species and forest animals are also mentioned. This diversity adds specific natural points of interest to the basalt hill’s geological character, which may appeal to interested hikers.

From Chomok, you can enjoy a view across the entire village of Jastrabá. This sets the viewpoint apart from the landscape of Ostrá hora: here, the focus is on an overview of the village, while Ostrá hora is a two-peaked hill with its own flora and fauna. A St. John’s bonfire is also lit on Chomok on St. John’s Day, a local tradition closely associated with this place.

Church and Roadside Chapels

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel is an early Gothic building dating from around the turn of the 14th century. It stands in a fortified complex on elevated ground in the center of Jastrabá. Two original Gothic portals and a Gothic tracery window in the presbytery have been preserved. The church’s construction period, location and surviving features give it several distinctive architectural characteristics.

The roadside chapels also add to the picture of local sacred architecture. One roadside chapel in Jastrabá dates from the late 18th century and is Late Baroque. There is also a Neo-Baroque roadside chapel in the lower part of the village. Early Gothic, Late Baroque and Neo-Baroque architecture thus offer different points of interest for travelers interested in architectural history.

Hiking in the Region

There are also regional hiking opportunities beyond the village: a hike from Nevoľné to the Jastrabá railway stop takes approximately two to three hours. This estimate applies to that specific route and is approximate; here, too, it’s a good idea to check local trail conditions before setting out. Together with the yellow-marked trail to Jastrabská skala, it offers another hiking option to consider when planning your trip.
