Memorial sites and building history

The Monument to the Unknown Hero on the summit of Avala is a mausoleum honoring a Serbian soldier who fell there in 1915 during the First World War. A well-maintained path leads to the monument. As a mausoleum, it commemorates a single fallen soldier and also provides a specific destination on the summit.

The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Beli Potok was built in 1883 through voluntary contributions and the work of local villagers. It is a single-nave building in the Raška school style and has a three-sided apse. A single-nave building has one main nave; the three-sided apse forms the end of the church interior. Its year of construction, community-built origins, and architecture each offer a distinct insight into local building history.

A memorial to soldiers from the period 1912–1918 stands in the churchyard of the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene. Beli Potok is also the birthplace of Vasa Čarapić, a commander in the First Serbian Uprising; a monument there commemorates him. Čarapić is buried by the north wall of the church at Rakovica Monastery.
