Tutova Commune: Nature Reserve and Archaeological Sites
Accommodation in Tutova Commune
Several distinct themes stand out for a trip to Tutova Commune: the Pădurea Bădeana nature reserve, archaeological settlements near Bădeana, and the local history of the village of Tutova. Viticulture is one of the economic activities mentioned in the commune. The commune lies on DN 24. When looking for a hotel, you could first consider whether protected nature, archaeological evidence, or historical connections will be the focus of your trip.
The Pădurea Bădeana Natural Area
Pădurea Bădeana is a nationally protected forest and botanical nature reserve in IUCN Category IV. The protected area was established in 1973 and covers 58.60 hectares. It preserves floral elements typical of the forest-steppe zone. This gives the natural setting a clearly defined character: the focus is on forest, protected land, and characteristic plant life. The area is also home to the bird species Aquila heliaca, Falco vespertinus, and Picus canus, which are listed as being of community importance. These three species add a specific connection to birdlife to the reserve’s botanical character. Pădurea Bădeana is considered a suitable destination for excursions. This natural area is therefore clearly distinct from the archaeological themes in the surrounding area: here, the focus is on a protected area with its own distinctive plants and species.
Archaeological Sites near Bădeana
There are three archaeological settlements near Bădeana, each with a different location description. Bădeana-Lot 1-5 lies at the foot of Valea Ţaga, on the left side of DN 24 at kilometer 58+500 and ten meters from the road. Bădeana-Lot 1-7 is also on the left side of DN 24, at kilometer 58+600 and one kilometer from the village of Bădeana. Ceramic fragments were found there on land used for agriculture.
Bădeana-Lot 1-8 lies two kilometers north of the village of Bădeana, on the right side of the road in the space between the road and the railway line, at kilometer 61+700. Evidence at this site includes a settlement from the Migration Period, dating to the 3rd to 4th centuries, as well as ceramic fragments. The sites are easy to confuse because their names are similar. So be sure to match each number with its location: Lot 1-5 is associated with Valea Ţaga, Lot 1-7 with finds on agricultural land, and Lot 1-8 with a dated settlement horizon. This keeps the three archaeological themes distinct.
Getting Around and Planning Your Route
A 2014 route report describes the distance from Bădeana to Rezervaţia Bădeana as approximately five to six kilometers. According to the report, it can be covered on foot, by bicycle, or by car; walking is recommended within the reserve. The travel options therefore refer to the route from Bădeana to the reserve, while the recommendation to walk applies to the route inside the protected area. Access, signage, and road surfaces may have changed. Check current conditions before making plans. This is an approximate distance, not a walking time.
Local History and Character
The village of Tutova was first documented on September 19, 1436. This date refers to the village of Tutova. Viticulture is one of the economic activities mentioned in Tutova Commune. Historical connections and a local economic activity thus complement the nature and archaeology themes. You can consider these aspects separately when planning your trip: the reserve represents nature, the settlements near Bădeana represent archaeological evidence, and the date 1436 marks Tutova’s local history.
