Blidari can be explored through several cultural and historical themes: religious architecture, the former Râmnicu Vâlcea–Vâlcele railway line, and a historical cycling tour to the viaduct. The wider travel area also includes museum connections. These themes offer different starting points for planning a trip: you can distinguish between religious architecture, industrial heritage, and specific local connections before planning an overnight stay.

Churches and Architectural History

The parish church in Blidari is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. If you would like to visit, please check in advance whether it is open to visitors. The Church of Cuvioasa Parascheva is also located in the village of Blidari, in the commune of Golești. It was built between 1889 and 1896 on the ruins of an older wooden church. Its construction history traces the sequence from an earlier wooden building, through its ruins, to the later church. Blidari thus has two distinct religious landmarks: one with a clearly stated dedication, and another with a specific construction history.

Museum Connections in the Travel Area

There is another connection to Blidari in the wider travel area: the exhibition item Povarnă Blidari, also called Povarna Ceauşescu Elvira, is housed at the Muzeul Satului Vâlcean in Bujoreni. It is attributed to Blidari in the commune of Golești, Vâlcea County. If you would like to see the item specifically, check the current exhibition details in advance. In addition, a 19th-century building used to make Tuci, from Blidari, was transferred to the museum. The museum connection thus ranges from a named item associated with Blidari to a historic building from the village. Together, these examples offer different perspectives on Blidari’s material history.

Railway Line and Viaduct

Blidari station, also known as Sâmnic, is part of the historical story of the Râmnicu Vâlcea–Vâlcele railway line. A 2006 engineering article described the line as 75 percent complete, with the engineering structures 100 percent complete. These figures reflect the construction progress reported at the time. The former railway line had been decommissioned; at the time, there were no more tracks along its approximately 40-kilometre route.

A historical cycling tour along the former railway line went as far as the unfinished Blidari Viaduct. To cross it, the cyclists descended into the valley to reach the other side. This adds a specific episode at the structure to the line’s engineering history. The account describes a single tour route; if you are planning a ride yourself, check the current route.

A Dated Event Notice

An event at Căminul Cultural Blidari also offers a snapshot of community life at a specific time. The opening of the “Golești – Sat European de Tineret 2026” program was scheduled for January 25, 2026, at 4 p.m. Attendance at the opening was free and open to all members of the community. The scheduled date has now passed and is a historical reference, not an upcoming event.
