Comuna Gura Vitioarei lies in the sub-Carpathian zone of the Teleajen Valley. Its hills, the Movila archaeological site, and historic buildings offer different highlights for a trip to the commune.

Landscape and Natural Sites

The area of Comuna Gura Vitioarei is characterized by hills; in the eastern part, the Teleajen River and the Tasica stream cross the commune. The landscape offers opportunities for hiking and enjoying nature. These natural experiences are a distinct aspect alongside the archaeological and historic sites.

Poiana Cazacu is a large meadow about 2 km before the entrance to Gura Vitioarei. It is suitable for picnics and taking in the sub-Carpathian landscape. The approximate distance places the meadow before the entrance to the village; it does not describe a route or walking time.

Near Gura Vitioarei, at Coada Malului, lies Izvorul lui Burebista. The site is considered a popular stop for tourists, offers fresh water, and serves as a starting point for easy hikes. Those wishing to include walks and time in nature in their trip will find another described natural site here, in addition to Poiana Cazacu.

Movila: Archaeological History on the Teleajen

The Dacian fortification known as Movila dates from the La Tène period, from the 2nd century BC to the 1st century AD. The archaeological site covers 40,000 m². Its location also makes it a distinctive landscape feature: it stands on the summit of a densely forested, cone-shaped hill on the left bank of the Teleajen, at the confluence with the Danciu Valley.

For travelers interested in archaeology, Movila brings together a specific fortification and a clearly dated period. The size of the site and its position on the wooded hilltop provide two different points of reference for understanding it: its archaeological dimension and its setting in the landscape.

Historic Sites in Făgetu and Fundeni

In the village of Făgetu, Hanul Roșu was built in the 17th century. It served as a horse-changing station for stagecoaches crossing the Bratocea Pass between the two Romanian principalities. Its history is therefore connected with postal traffic over the pass at the time.

Also in Făgetu is Conacul Cireșanu. Built in 1910, it reflects early 20th-century architecture. In Fundeni, the Moșia Brâncovenilor estate belonged to the Brâncoveanu family.

Biserica Fundeni dates from 1800, is now a ruin, and is still considered an important monument. Tablets bearing Cyrillic script were found at the church and translated by the historian Nicolae Iorga. The building's history and this discovery give the site different historical associations: the church as a monument and the tablets as evidence of written tradition.

Plan Activities and Your Journey

Parohia Gura Vitioarei organizes cultural and religious activities, including excursions and pilgrimages. These add a religious and cultural focus to the opportunities for hiking and enjoying nature.
