For a stay in Iași, travel interests range from parks and museums to literary heritage, winemaking and cycling. When choosing a hotel, first consider which interests you want to shape your trip. The sights and activities offer concrete points of reference—from historic places to a longer cycling route.

Parks, Gardens and Views

Parcul Expoziției is located on Copou Hill and covers approximately 5.4 hectares. Two spacious children's playgrounds and a dedicated skateboarding area complement the park. As such facilities may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before visiting. Parcul Copou is Iași's oldest city park and was established in 1833. At its center stands the Monument of the Organic Regulation, known as “Obeliscul cu lei.” The park is also home to the lime tree known as Teiul lui Eminescu, estimated to be more than 450 years old.

The two parks offer different highlights: Parcul Expoziției has playground and skateboarding areas alongside its parkland, while Parcul Copou is defined by its long history and notable memorials. Grădina Palas offers a sweeping view of Palatul Culturii. Those interested in greenery and landscapes can also find lakes and mineral springs across approximately 100 hectares at Grădina Botanică Iași.

Grădina Botanică hosts traditional annual exhibitions that bring together scientific plant collections and attract visitors from Romania and abroad. As exhibition dates may vary, check the dates before your visit.

Architecture and Museums

Palatul Culturii houses four museums of national importance. Muzeul de Istorie a Moldovei, located in the palace, presents the development of the princely court of Iași. Mănăstirea Sfinții Trei Ierarhi offers a different architectural perspective: Vasile Lupu had it built between 1637 and 1639. The stone ornaments on its exterior make the building look like lace carved from stone.

Palatul „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” de la Ruginoasa now houses Muzeul Memorial „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” and retains features of the Neo-Gothic style. The layout of Mănăstirea Cetățuia also reflects its construction history: high stone walls with battlements and a wall walk, a monumental entrance tower, and four corner towers are among its surviving defensive features.

Muzeul Sitului Arheologic Cucuteni preserves a princely tomb dating from the 4th to 3rd century BC; the museum also displays original archaeological objects from the Cucuteni culture. The building offers a comprehensive view of the excavated tumulus. Archaeological exhibits and the form of the tomb are thus presented as different aspects of the same site.

Literary Heritage

Bojdeuca Ion Creangă in Țicău opened to the public on 15 April 1918, becoming Romania's first literary memorial museum. Ion Creangă wrote all his stories and the famous “Amintiri din Copilărie” there. Casa Pogor, meanwhile, served as the headquarters of the “Junimea” Literary Society.

Muzeul Mihai Eminescu consists of three halls. On the ground floor are Sala Destinului, with a zodiac mosaic, and Sala de Arta; Sala Prieteniei is upstairs. The different room layout and named exhibition areas also make a visit to the museum appealing to travelers with a particular interest in Mihai Eminescu.

Winemaking and Cycling

Crama Cotnari has 15 cellars extending over more than two kilometers, which are considered the winery's main tourist attraction. The wine-growing area includes grape varieties such as Grasă de Cotnari, Tămâioasă Românească, Frâncușă and Fetească Albă. The cellars and grape varieties offer two tangible sides of winemaking in Cotnari: the winery's underground facilities and the diversity of the grapes it grows.

The “7 Coline pe bicicletă” active travel route crosses the seven hills of Galata, Cetăţuia, Repedea, Bucium, Şorogari, Breazu and Copou and is 60 kilometers long. It runs mainly along unpaved paths. Numerous return routes to the city make it possible to ride just part of the route. This lets you choose between a full tour and a shorter section, without implying that the route is paved throughout. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Getting Around

A 2025 travel overview lists trams, buses and minibuses as Iași's public transport options. It also notes the possibility of paying on board using a POS terminal. Before traveling, check whether this payment option is currently available.
