Amara: Spa Resort by the Lake, Beaches and Culture
Accommodation in Amara
Amara is shaped above all by Lake Amara and its spa treatments. If you are looking for a hotel in Amara, you can start by planning your stay around these themes. Four beaches, a historic church and events add other interests to the area’s profile—from the lake and spa experience to cultural events and competitions.
Lake Amara and spa treatments
Lake Amara, in Amara, Ialomiţa County, is designated as a 162-hectare special avifaunal protected area. “Avifaunal” refers to birdlife. At the same time, the lake is the spa resort’s main tourist attraction and most important natural therapeutic factor. This means that both its protected-area status and its spa role are associated with the same place.
Amara has facilities for mud packs and cold-mud rubdowns, followed by baths in Lake Amara. This sequence combines the treatments mentioned with bathing in the lake. If a particular facility is important to your plans, check its availability before travelling.
Tourists in Amara can use the four beaches: Perla, UGSR, Splendid and Mirceşti. The beaches are privately managed, and their access conditions may change. Check the conditions at your chosen beach before visiting.

Church and events
Construction of Biserica Sfântul Nicolae și Sfântul Ioan Botezătorul – Amara began in 1893; the church was consecrated on August 6, 1898. The start of construction and the consecration date mark two distinct historical milestones in the church’s construction.
Trofeul Tineretii is a national competition in Amara for performances of Romanian light music. If this type of programme is important to your trip, check the latest dates separately.
The Festivalul de Agrement şi Turism Balnear Amara is held annually. The 2018 programme focused on shows and dance competitions. Check the dates and programme for the current edition before travelling.
Editions of the Festivalul Clătitelor in Amara through 2019 combined a culinary competition, shows and sports competitions. The event was held at Grădina de Vară in Amara, and admission was free. Check before travelling whether there is a current edition and what access conditions apply.
The events have different profiles: Trofeul Tineretii is dedicated to Romanian light music; the 2018 Festivalul de Agrement şi Turism Balnear Amara combined shows with dance competitions; and the Festivalul Clătitelor programme featured food and sport. This comparison can help you assess potential event dates according to your preferred focus.
