When looking for a hotel in Mărişel, you can first consider whether hiking, local culture or winter sports will shape your stay. Hiking options include circular routes with stated distances and elevation gains, as well as marked trails with specified walking times and difficulty levels. Viewpoints and cultural stops add to the choices. The different details can help you organize activities around your interests.

Compare hiking trails by distance and time

The Circuitul Țâcla Gavrii circular route is about four kilometres long and has around 300 metres of elevation gain. It starts at the Țâcla car park, passes through a wooded area and reaches the Țâcla Gavrii viewpoint. If you are comparing routes, the approximate distance provides a useful starting point. Trail conditions may vary; check them before your hike.

The Rusești–Dâlboacă–Colții Șoimului–Rusești circular route is considerably longer, at about 12.5 kilometres, and has around 700 metres of elevation gain. It starts in the hamlet of Rusești in the municipality of Mărișel. The route passes through a section of the Someșul Cald gorge and across a plateau and ridge with six viewpoints over the Gilău Mountains. When comparing routes, this roughly 12.5-kilometre loop stands alongside the approximately four-kilometre Circuitul Țâcla Gavrii.

Three trails in the Fântânele area are each listed as easy, with approximate walking times provided. The Fântânele–Gorge Entrance trail is marked red and takes about four hours. Fântânele–Quarry is marked yellow and takes around one hour; Fântânele–Iancului Cross is marked blue and takes around two hours. If you use time as your selection criterion, Fântânele–Quarry is the shortest of the three listed routes. Conditions on these trails may also vary.

Rocks, forests and viewpoints

Țâcla Gavrii is a very tall rock face above a large forested area. From the summit, you can see distant mountains and the scattered houses of Măguri Răcătău. The Circuitul Țâcla Gavrii circular route reaches the viewpoint after its forest section.

A route report published in 2021 also describes a yellow-marked circular trail that starts near the church in Mărișel, passes through the forest and reaches Trei Pâraie. Along the way, there are views of the Leșu Valley. Three watermills and rest areas have been set up at Trei Pâraie. Check the facilities on site before planning this trail.
