In Moen, the seasonal offerings of Målselv Fjellandsby meet the history of Moen Mølle. When planning your trip, the time of year is especially important: different activities take center stage in winter than in summer and autumn. Depending on your starting point, there are also different ways to arrange your journey.

Winter Activities in Moen

In winter, Målselv Fjellandsby offers exclusive dog sledding, Sámi cultural experiences, and snowshoe tours under the Northern Lights. Cross-country skiing is another of the listed winter activities. For alpine winter sports, the Fjellandsby has a total of 13 kilometers of downhill ski runs and a designated area for children and beginners. These descriptions cover different options; they do not promise that every activity will suit everyone. Since the offerings are seasonal, check what is available for your travel dates before you go. This will help you plan your stay around the winter activities you actually want to do.

Summer and Autumn: Hiking, Moose, and Fishing

In summer and autumn, Målselv Fjellandsby offers mountain hikes and moose safaris. Fishing is available in nearby rivers and bodies of water; the fishing spots are not on the Fjellandsby grounds. Before going fishing, check the applicable permits and seasonal conditions. Mountain hikes, moose safaris, and fishing are offered in summer and autumn; dog sledding, Sámi experiences, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing are part of the winter offering.

Moen Mølle: History and Technology

Moen Mølle was built in 1916 and moved to Moen in 1925. After being restored, it reopened in 1966. Its technological history includes an electric motor from 1922, considered the first of its kind in Troms.

There is also a historic memorial site at Øvre Moen: a monument and commemorative plaque were erected there in 1995. The site is colloquially known as Tsjekkerlunden.

More Places to Visit in the Målselv Destination

Målselv also has natural and cultural attractions that offer a broader perspective beyond Moen. Målselvfossen is a waterfall with a drop of 22 meters on the lower reaches of the Målselva. In 2003, it was named Norway’s national waterfall in a public vote by NRK listeners. The “Fra foss til Foss” cultural trail runs through Målselv between Bardufossen and Målselvfossen, connecting two named waterfall destinations on a cultural walking route.

Another cultural stop in Målselv is Fossmotunet. It presents the history and culture of the people who immigrated to Målselv from the late 18th century onward. Visits for groups and school classes are possible by request from May to September.
