Tennevollen: Find culture, trails, and hotels
Accommodation in Tennevollen
When looking for a hotel in Tennevollen, you can plan around the interests that define the place: activities at Lauvhallen, outdoor trails, and the Kulturgammen as a cultural landmark. Lavangen, the wider travel destination, adds its own cultural and landscape themes to the local picture.
Activities and trails in Tennevollen
Lauvhallen is a multi-purpose hall that includes, among other facilities, a swimming pool. It hosts activities for children, young people, and adults, including swimming lessons. Lavangen Paintball is also based in Tennevoll and offers activities for all age groups. These give you different options to consider when planning: a hall with a swimming pool and activities for several age groups, as well as another leisure activity in the area.
If you enjoy walking, Elvestien is one of the few easy walking trails starting in Tennevoll. Tennevoll’s illuminated ski trails serve as hiking trails during the snow-free part of the year. The options therefore differ both in how they are described—as a walking trail or a ski trail—and in the stated season for use as a hiking trail.
The paths in Elveparken can be used, especially during the snow-free season, by people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users. An activity trail has also been established in the park in collaboration with Lavangen’s volunteer center. If accessibility is important to your plans, check the trail conditions before your visit: conditions and accessibility details may change.
Kulturgammen: landmark and cultural venue
The Kulturgammen in Tennevoll is a distinctive landmark with a grass roof; its design is rooted in Sami cultural history. It also serves as a venue for Sami cultural events, including events about gákti and traditional Sami knowledge. There are no set opening hours outside of events. When the building is closed, you can view the exhibitions inside through the windows.
The Kulturgammen is located beside a park. The promenade is nearby, and there are benches outdoors where you can sit. This makes the site a combination of a striking building with cultural significance and a described setting to consider when planning your visit.
Lavangen as a wider travel destination
The identity of the wider travel destination of Lavangen is shaped by the meeting of Sami, Kven, and Norwegian cultures. Krambuvika Bygdemuseum is a distinct cultural-history attraction: it is situated by the sea on Soløy and comprises several buildings and a diverse collection of objects. The site includes a nostalgic shop, a pier house, a shoemaker’s workshop, and boathouses with older types of boats. This stop offers a different facet of cultural history from the Kulturgammen in Tennevoll.
Lavangen also offers a variety of landscape attractions. Henrikkafossen is a waterfall around 250 meters high. In winter, it is a destination for ice climbers; when it freezes, it becomes a large ice wall that has attracted climbers for many years. At 1,457 meters above sea level, Spanstinden is Lavangen’s highest mountain. From there, you can enjoy sweeping views of Sær-Troms, the Narvik region, the Lofoten Islands, and Swedish Lapland.
Another regional hiking trail is Midnattsoltrappa, a developed mountain hiking trail in Spansdalen. The wooden staircase has 2,117 steps and offers views of the valley, Tennevoll, and Lavangsfjord. The trail starts at the community center in Spansdalen. From the parking lot, an approximately 580-meter section first follows a gravel road, before the steps climb the mountainside. These details give you specific information about the route’s layout without conflating the approximate length of the first section with the number of steps.
