Henneseid combines the Henneseid fishing-permit area with the Postveien circular walk near Henseidvannet. For trip planning, these offer two distinct focal points: fishing at the lake and the signed walk, with its own access road. The forest and rocky landscapes of Henneseidfjellkløfta also shape the natural scenery.

Fishing at Henseidvannet

The Henneseid fishing-permit area is one of three areas managed by Drangedal JFF. At Henseidvannet, there is a shelter, a barbecue area, a lavvu and boats, as well as a wheelchair-accessible toilet. The fishing facilities by the lake are also easily accessible by wheelchair.

Day permits for fishing in the waters near Henseid can be purchased at the barrier at Henseidmoen. Check the current fishing-permit regulations before your trip. This allows you to plan for purchasing permits and spending time at the facilities as separate items.

The Postveien Circular Walk

The Postveien circular walk near Henseidvannet starts at the far end of Henseidvannet and is signposted and marked in blue. To reach the trailhead, turn off National Road 356 between Skien and Drangedal at Henseid, heading towards Henseidvann. From there, drive about 9 km to the far end of Henseidvannet. The approximately 9 km refers to the drive to the starting point, not the length of the walk.

There is a toll on the access road. The toll is NOK 30 and can be paid via Vipps. There is parking at the end, but the road must not be blocked. Check current access conditions before driving and check the trail markers before setting out.

The circular walk follows signposted trails to Hulkaleiren, a scout camp established during the war. There is a small cabin and a rest area by Kroktjenn. Check trail conditions and the state of the cabin on site.

Forest and rocky landscapes

Henneseidfjellkløfta divides the mountain into Søndre Henneseidfjell and Nordre Henneseidfjell. Birch-pasture woodland and some poor black alder swamp forest grow on stony ground. There are also nutrient-poor rock faces with oceanic mosses and various types of spruce forest. The summit areas are home to low-growing heather pine forest and, in places, more vigorous bilberry-heather pine forest.

The Henneseid/Henneseidfjellet natural area covers 1,140 daa. Large areas are characterized by south- and west-facing, rocky, old and low-growing oak-pine forest with heather and bilberry vegetation. Together with the forest types in Henneseidfjellkløfta, this creates a varied landscape of rock, forest and different vegetation zones.
