Askvoll lies on the coast of Sunnfjord, between fjord and mountains; from the centre, views open out over the islands to the west. Its coastal setting, ferry connections and Askvoll Church offer different ways to shape a stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Askvoll, you can consider whether you mainly want to explore the centre, go hiking or also visit destinations elsewhere in the municipality.

Ferry connections, waterfront and trails in the centre

Ferries depart from Askvoll centre for Atløy, Fure and Værlandet/Bulandet, among other destinations. This makes the islands one of the options to consider when planning your trip. Check the latest ferry schedules before travelling. From the centre, you can also walk around Prestegarden. At waterfront spots in Askvoll, you can enjoy being close to the fjord; visitors can swim, barbecue and relax there.

One specific restaurant option in the centre is Askvoll Fjordhotell, which has a restaurant in the heart of Askvoll. A ferry trip, a walk and time by the water each offer a different focus for your stay, without needing to combine activities that are far apart.

Askvoll Church and Anders Askevold

Askvoll Church is a wooden long church with 425 seats. Provost Johan Carl Christie consecrated it on 13 December 1863. Its altarpiece was painted by artist Anders Askevold as early as 1859. When the previous church burned down in 1862, the painting was saved. Askevold also made the drawings for Askvoll Church. The history of the painting and the dates of the fire and consecration give a visit to the church a specific historical context.

The cultural trail “A journey through Anders Askevold’s motifs” leads to places in Askvoll associated with the painter’s life. It extends the focus on the church to other places connected with Askevold. You can make art and local history a focus of your time in Askvoll.
