Explore Myklebostad on Tjeldøya through hiking trails, water activities and cultural attractions. You can start the hike to Trollfjellet here; nearby destinations such as Rusvika add swimming, fishing and other activities to the hiking options. An outdoor bouldering area and the artwork Media Thule offer their own distinctive attractions. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, these differences can help you identify what interests you during your stay.

Hiking and outdoor destinations

The hike to Trollfjellet can start in Myklebostad. From there, a marked trail continues for a good distance. Check the trail markers and conditions before setting out.

The 8FL8-MÅL trail network includes eight destinations with trails of varying difficulty. There is a box at each destination where hikers can register their visit. The different difficulty levels are a useful guide when choosing hikes to match your preferred level of challenge.

One trail in the network starts at Myklebostad Kulturhus, crosses the marsh to Langholten and is one of the routes to Raudurtinden. Another landmark is Helligbrua: the suspension bridge crosses the outlet of Tindvannet and is close to hiking destination 6 in the 8FL8-MÅL network, at about 300 metres above sea level. Myklebostad on Tjeldøya also has an outdoor bouldering area.

Rusvika: hiking, swimming and other activities

Rusvika is 2 kilometres west of Myklebostad on Tjeldøya. This versatile, scenic and easily accessible outdoor area is suitable for hiking and swimming, fishing, boating, climbing and camping. Rusvika beach has a gentle slope and is suitable for children. If swimming is part of your trip plans, this is a specific feature to bear in mind; Rusvika also offers hiking and other outdoor activities.

Media Thule and fishing in the Ofotfjord

Media Thule is in Rusvik, near Myklebostad, and can be reached via a path from the car park. The artwork is designed as a place where visitors can linger for a while and reflect on the fjord and the mountains. While the hiking trails lead to specific destinations, Media Thule invites you to pause and take it all in.

The fishing spots and fishing grounds in the Ofotfjord are not far from Myklebostad harbour. Cod and saithe are the easiest fish to catch there; which species are available depends on the season and conditions. If you plan to fish, take these seasonal variations into account.

Getting there by car

By car, you can reach Myklebostad from the E10 via Fv. 824 and the Ramsund Bridge. From there, the road continues to Tjeldøya; at the signposted junction, turn towards Myklebostad. The drive from Ramsund Bridge takes about 20 minutes. Check road conditions and signs before setting out.

More nature and culture attractions in the wider destination of Tjeldsund

The wider destination of Tjeldsund offers additional nature and cultural attractions beyond local hiking and water activities. Tennvatn Nature Reserve has international Ramsar status. The Tjeldsund Museum is in Stokke on Tjeldøya, in an old school building with a classroom and a teacher’s and sexton’s residence dating from 1869.

Steinsland Klyngetun includes a farmhouse dating from 1840 and an exhibition about Regine Normann. It also displays 2,000 objects in an authentic atmosphere evoking the period around 1920. At Sand, the remains of a boathouse about 40 metres long are among the largest discovered in Northern Norway. The Steinsvik sword was found in a grave dating from the early 9th century and is considered unique in a Nordic context. These examples illustrate the range of attractions in the wider destination of Tjeldsund: protected natural areas, historic buildings, exhibitions and archaeological finds.
