Røsvik combines coastal scenery, wartime history and historic buildings with trails leading into the surrounding landscape. If you are considering the area as a travel destination, you can plan your priorities around history, culture, hiking or winter activities.

Coastal Fort and Trails

At Røsvik Coastal Fort, there is a cleared path, exposed traces of wartime history and information boards about the fort’s history. The fort preserves the remains of a defensive installation built by the Germans during the Second World War. Its main armament consisted of six Belgian field guns with a calibre of 7.5 centimetres and a range of 10,000 metres. In this way, the visible traces on site are linked to specific details about the military installation. Check the condition of the path before your visit.

A blue-marked route through Røsvikdalen starts at the shooting range in Røsvik and crosses the mountains to Fridalen in Valnesfjord. The church path between Røsvik and Valnesfjord is well marked and maintained, and now also leads into Sjunkhatten National Park. The routes have different stated destinations: one leads to Fridalen, while the church path also leads into the national park. Check the markings, access and trail conditions before setting out.

Church and Cultural Heritage

Røsvik Church is a wooden long church dating from 1883, with a capacity of 600 people. It is also known as Sørfold Cathedral and is often used for concerts. A historic crucifix from Rørstad is displayed in the church in a case that protects it from light and moisture. The architecture, musical use and individual historic object offer different cultural aspects of a visit to the church.

Trading History, Beach and Winter

Røsvik Old Trading Post is protected as a cultural heritage site and is one of the few remaining trading houses in Northern Norway. The restored trading house has traditions dating back to 1760; the main building dates from 1832. The former bank premises at the trading house have been converted into a gallery and an ice cream shop. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening hours in advance.

Røsvikleira has a sandy beach. Røsvik also has a 2.5-kilometre illuminated cross-country ski trail. These offer different options for planning your trip: a coastal landscape with a sandy beach and an illuminated trail for winter. Trail conditions can vary seasonally; check the latest conditions in advance.

Sørfold as the Wider Landscape

In the wider destination of Sørfold, Rago National Park lies entirely within the municipality. Its landscape includes pine forests and sheltered coves, smooth-polished rocks, thundering waterfalls, and high mountains with permanent snow. The park has some well-marked trails, suspension bridges over the largest rivers and boardwalks in the wettest areas. This regional information about nature and trails complements the local themes of Røsvik with a distinct perspective on Sørfold.
