Nesna lies on a peninsula between two fjords. Here, the coast and islands meet fjords and mountains. This landscape gives the town a clear setting for a stay that combines cultural and historical impressions with outdoor activities.

Location and Getting There

Nesna is served by the Helgelandspendelen and Nordland Express fast boat routes. From Sandnessjøen, travel via Levang; from there, take the ferry to Nesna. Check the current timetables before your trip.

Museum and Architectural History

Nesna Museum is housed in two historic buildings, including Klokkergården, which dates from 1823. The permanent exhibitions in Zahl-Huset feature objects from trade, domestic life, agriculture and fishing, as well as secondary occupations and domestic crafts and arts. The different themes offer insights into various aspects of life and work, presented side by side in the museum.

A separate exhibition is dedicated to Nesnalobben. This felt shoe was first made in Nesna in 1955 and continued to be produced there for 50 years. The exhibition on the product’s history complements the other collections with a specific example of local manufacturing. In Klokkergården, a former school, desks, display boards, globes and books recall the building’s earlier use as a school.

You will also come across historic buildings on a walk through Nesna: houses and buildings in the Nordland style from the 19th and early 20th centuries can be seen. The teacher training college building dates from the 1920s. Klokkergården, the school materials and the buildings throughout the town offer different ways to explore Nesna’s architectural and cultural history.
